Was Jesus Gay?

So, let me get this straight: Sky, a poster who lets all know as often as she can that she rejects Christianity. And, she also lets folks know she is a lesbian.

Yet, she so desperately needs to think Jesus Christ was gay so she can be validated.

So, not surprising, she is conflicted about both her rejection of Christianity AND being a lezbo.

How sad for her that self-acceptance is so difficult.

Michael Kelly wrote of Jesus' attitude towards a same-sex couple as described in Matthew 8:5-13: and Luke 7:2: "One day a Roman Centurion asked him to heal his dying servant. Scholars of both Scripture and Ancient History tell us that Roman Centurions, who were not permitted to marry while in service, regularly chose a favorite male slave to be their personal assistant and sexual servant. Such liaisons were common in the Greco-Roman world and it was not unusual for them to deepen into loving partnerships....Jesus offered to go to the servant, but the centurion asked him simply to speak a word of healing, since he was not worthy to welcome this itinerant Jewish teacher under his roof. Jesus responded by healing the servant and proclaiming that even in Israel he had never found faith like this!

So, in the one Gospel story where Jesus encountered people sharing what we would call a 'gay relationship,' we see him simply concerned about -- and deeply moved by -- their faith and love." Kelly implies that Jesus' sensitivity towards the gay couple might have arisen from his own bisexual or homosexual orientation. 1

So, if someone is supportive of a gay relationship between others they must be gay, too?

Really?

"When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, 'Woman behold your son!' Then he said to the disciple. 'Behold your mother!' And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home."

That disciple was John whom Jesus, the gospels affirm, loved in a special way.
All the other disciples had fled in fear. Three women but only one man had the courage to go with Jesus to his execution. That man clearly had a unique place in the affection of Jesus.

John 19: 17-30

Is this proof that Jesus approved gay marriage? These are his last words and he sends his mother to live with John. Heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual: Jesus could have been any of these. There can be no certainty which. The homosexual option simply seems the most likely. The intimate relationship with the beloved disciple points in that direction. Whether Jesus was gay or straight in no way affects who he was and what he means for the world today. Spiritually it is immaterial.

What is your "proof"?

Where is your proof he was heterosexual? His last words direct John, the one who he loved, to care for his mother.

Sound's like a gay marriage to me.

I'd say it's open to speculation. There is nothing in the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) which specifically identifies Jesus' sexual orientation.

Marriage isn't mentioned. All it says is take care of her. Speculate all you want, but don't call it "proof". These are the Holy Scriptures you're playing with, not the National Enquirer. Ponder that for a while.

It's been speculated that he was actually married to Mary Magdalene.

If anything, Jesus was asexual, just like his father.

The bible says Jesus is human and God and that he experienced temptation like very human, yet never sinned. That leads me to believe he felt every emotion and feeling a human can feel.

Jesus was a Hebrew rabbi. Unusually, he was unmarried. The idea that he had a romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene is the stuff of fiction, based on no biblical evidence. The evidence, on the other hand, that he may have been what we today call gay is very strong. But even gay rights campaigners in the church have been reluctant to suggest it. A significant exception was Hugh Montefiore, bishop of Birmingham and a convert from a prominent Jewish family. He dared to suggest that possibility and was met with disdain, as though he were simply out to shock.

After much reflection and with certainly no wish to shock, I felt I was left with no option but to suggest, for the first time in half a century of my Anglican priesthood, that Jesus may well have been homosexual. Had he been devoid of sexuality, he would not have been truly human. To believe that would be heretical.

Heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual: Jesus could have been any of these. There can be no certainty. The homosexual option simply seems the most likely.

Well, you have been looking mighty hot lately, Ravi.

Oops, was that out loud?

"Mark 7:15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him:"

There it is. That is the test. The entire chapter is about THESE words, which Jesus Christ himself has identified as important for ALL to understand.

Christians DO recognize these words as very important and significant. In fact, they have led to a major difference between how Christians and Jews act even today. These words are widely interpreted as overturning the kosher laws. And they have. After all, eating involves something entering into a man from without. Therefore, the kosher laws, which said that a man was defiled by eating certain things, are set aside for Christians. Jesus says they are wrong, because they involve something entering a man from without.

Likewise, blood transfusions, medication, organ transplants, and artificial insemination are not sins and do not defile, because all of those involve something entering a man from without.

Likewise HOMOSEXUAL ACTS are not sins and do not defile, because all of those ALSO involve something entering a man from without.

Jesus Speaks of Homosexual Acts

Lack of evidence isn't evidence of non-existence

Except it isn't, but hey, what ever helps you sleep at night.

sigh....you are doing the same thing the uber-christians do, taking things out of context to push an agenda.

So you are claiming he was bi-sexual?

Nope. I am saying he was tempted because the bible says HE WAS TEMPTED EVERY WAY, YET NEVER SINNED. Therefore, he could not be homosexual or bisexual.

Um..."There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man."

You have to include the whole sentence...you work for MSNBC?
