Venezuela ravaged by socialism.

"For many Americans, it's a news story piped in from a faraway place. For me? It's my friends and family who are suffering at the hands of an increasingly powerful and paranoid dictatorial regime. As a kid growing up in Caracas, I remember the difficult decision my parents had to make when Hugo Chavez attempted his coup and took over shortly thereafter. My parents decided to leave behind our life in Venezuela and come to the United States – much like my mother's family fled Cuba in the 1960s when Fidel Castro took over. Though it was a hard choice, in hindsight, we were the lucky ones.

"Those watching from around the world, particularly in the United States, seem hesitant to put a label on Venezuela's struggle. But for me and mine, it's clear what precipitated this crisis – and we don't share the hesitance to point it out. While extenuating circumstances like drought and oil prices have certainly worsened the situation, it's clear there's a larger force behind Venezuela's woes.

"The force that is driving Venezuela into the ground is socialism."

Socialism is a death cult.

Venezuela is ravaged by poor monetary policies. Socialism is just a scapegoat for the ignorant.
Socialism IS the poor monetary choice.

It results in starvation, murder, corruption.

It's a failed experiment.

And those who refuse to get it need to be eliminated. They waited too long in Venezuela.
Socialism has nothing to do with monetary policy rube.

In the last year Venezuela has increased it's money supply 127%. The money is worth nothing.

"In the midst of this chaos, I see people in the United States – most of whom have never known a life outside of the abundance available to them as a result of our market economy – gravitating toward socialism like it's some natural force for good. As reported in these pages, a recent survey shows that nearly 60 percent of 18 to 26 year-olds believe socialism is the "most compassionate system."

"But socialism is not compassionate. Whether a socialist government owns the means of production via nationalized industries, or enforces central planning via price controls and stringent regulatory structures, socialism operates under the assumption that an insulated leader and his legion of bureaucrats are the best judges of what people are worth."

The Americans who embrace it have been told all their lives that everything good emanates from government programs. That anybody who doesn't embrace statism is a *racist*...that history is malleable and meaningless, that facts are negligible and as long as you have good INTENT then you should be able to control the finances, food, industry, and liberty of others.

They're wrong, and they need to be removed from our society.

Socialism has everything to do with monetary policy silly person. Socialist monetary policy MADE the money worthless. Rube.

And this is what the leftists and so-called *environmentalists* want for the US.

"Venezuela cannot wake up from its socialist nightmare....

"This was wholly preventable. And I blame socialism.

"Venezuela's previous president, Hugo Chavez, set the stage for the country's destruction by spending Venezuela's oil money on social programs designed to boost his popularity even as he set about wrecking the country's assets, expropriating most valuable private companies, sometimes to turn them into bureaucracies and sometimes to give them to friends, implementing price and retail controls that ensured people wouldn't have access to basic necessities and capital controls that caused inflation to rise, shutting down alternative voices in the media, Putin- and Erdogan-style, and winking at top-to-bottom corruption."

Sound familiar?

Venezuela's socialist hell
Oil price tank didn't help.
Must be nice to say things so biased and simplistic.
Any idea why Sweden and Finland are great places to live?

Nationalizing the oil fields and placing them under control of government toadies who couldn't find their collective asses with both hands is more to blame don't you think? They are barely producing oil now and they have larger reserves than Saudi Arabia.

Socialists always find ways to shut down industry and create a starving, dependent class that has no strength nor resources to stand against the seizure of all the money, resources and land by a few lunatics.

In Oregon, our treasurer is currently advocating a sale of a big chunk of public land, the Elliott State Forest, to OSU. They are advertising it as "keeping the public lands public" but of course they are doing the exact opposite. The land is CURRENTLY PUBLIC. They just can't afford to PATROL it. So the state wants to offload it to the SCHOOL, and then use it to train brownshirted thugs. It won't be 'public" when the school owns it.

Commie racketeering. That's how it works.

I guess I have a different understanding of Socialism. I don't see Venezuela as a Socialist country. I see them as a country under the thumb of an authoritarian regime practicing some type of a State capitalist system. And a clueless one at that.

They are authoritarian socialist. One step below socialist. The common denominator being it is a collectivist government type.

Authoritarian and collective are contradictory terms. Which is it?

No, they're not. There are only two types of government. The collectivist is that which has control over the people. The people have no rights, and no responsibilities for themselves. The other type is individualist. The ultimate form of individualist government is NO government. Also known as anarchy. Collectivist governments can take many forms from dictatorships through to oligarchies. The one thing they all have in common is they have control over the people, not the other way around.

It's authoritarian socialist. Not contradictory at all.

Collectivism doesn't work. It is simply used to weaken the majority so that an authoritarian can establish control.

Yeah. But they have the resources to be a very much First World nation. Too bad it's run by a bunch of progressives.

Lack of infrastructure, two class system, no middle class. Third world.

You have to stop Tehon. You just have to stop. Socialism has been a catastrophic failure world-wide. It has a 100% failure rate. It has never worked and it never will. At some point you have to grow up and stop being an immature idealist.
