Unionized GM plant adds third shift

GM killed Oldsmobile and Pontiac.

Those two brands saw me through my youth and early adulthood. Now they are gone.

So am I gone as a GM customer, EVER again!

If GM ever decided to get rid of unions and produce quality vehicles like union-free Toyota I might reconsider.
Toyota just announced that they are moving one of their vehicle manufacturing FROM Japan TO Europe.

I thought European-style "Socialism" was bad for business?

Where in Europe?

Great Britain, (I think)...But for parts manufacture...

But one has to ask if this is a wise move with the EU failure looming?

They are jealous, because they are all on welfare.

Funny seeing you all supporting SUV's.
Actually, I've been working my way thru the wingnut comments before getting to that.

If they are just returning to making huge Fuck-You-Mobiles that get 17 MPG, then I am against it. If these are all hybrids that get at least 30 MPG, I feel a little better about it, but I still hate these living rooms on wheels. Nobody needs it. And I hate being stuck behind them, not being able to see what's happening up ahead.

Might want to factor in Duel Fuel, Natural Gas is under rated.

Bravo, our Buicks are beautiful machines, both made here. Now get out and support our workers, America, and each other - or whine about America like a right wing conservative republican - we are still a free nation and if whining is the best you can do, go for it.

Buy American = "Because Ford, GM and Chrysler conduct far more of their research, design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly work in the U.S. than foreign automakers do, buying a Ford, GM, or Chrysler supports almost three times as many jobs as buying the average foreign automobile. Some comparisons are even more striking. Buying a Ford supports 3.5 times more jobs than buying a Hyundai. Comparing a Honda and a Hyundai? Buying a Honda supports more than 2 times more jobs." http://www.levelfieldinstitute.org/jpc_rating.html

I thought the unions were evil and greedy that cause businesses to shut down? :lmao:

you are just a walking talking cliche

Oh that's rich coming from you.

ARLINGTON -- General Motors will add a third shift and about 800 jobs to its Arlington truck assembly plant early next year, the company announced Friday, a boost that adds to previously announced expansions.

In total, GM will now add upwards of 1,100 employees to the Arlington plant's payroll in the next year as it prepares to launch a new line of large SUVs for the 2014 model year. Workers have been putting in overtime to meet production demands for the plant's SUVs.

Yup Trucks and SUV's. Vehicles people actually want and that generate profit. How's the Volt doing? How about the other little shit boxes they have to pedal below cost to make the CAFE standards?
Fuck what people "want". People "want" free beer.

You can't have MPG under 20 AND cheap gas. No matter how much you drill.

Right now we are EXPORTING gasoline to other countries at record rates. So that means we have plenty of gas.

France. :)

Obama saved GM.

Romney said, "Let Detroit go bankrupt."

General Motors would be no more missed than American Motors, Studebaker, Packard and Hudson, if it had met its inevitable fate like the aforementioned companies.

Make no mistake: GM is doomed. So is Chrysler. It is just a matter of time.

So is any and all that needs Government to bail them out. Same goes for free-loading individuals as well.

I like that one, that's the liberal way. But they love to give "free" stuff.....hmmmmm

Says who? and to get to 20 MPG we have to have cars made of plastic, I like steel, dam, we could even get some steelworkers jobs back.

Can I see the figures on import/export gas of the US?

Did you happen to notice the reasons Toyota gave for this move?

Millions of workers would disagree

It's no different than GM building in China. You go where the profit is. Funny thing, prior to Obama giving GM the money to move there you all used to bitch about companies moving jobs overseas.

"Socialist"/living-wage-paying/lavish-benefit France is the same thing as slave-wage China?

How fucking stupid are you?

Apparently not as stupid as you. They are building where the demand is to avoid export and import expenses.

Idiot
