Unionized GM plant adds third shift

Obama saved GM.

Romney said, "Let Detroit go bankrupt."

General Motors would be no more missed than American Motors, Studebaker, Packard and Hudson, if it had met its inevitable fate like the aforementioned companies.

Make no mistake: GM is doomed. So is Chrysler. It is just a matter of time.

So is any and all that needs Government to bail them out. Same goes for free-loading individuals as well.

The Red States are fucked, then!

yep red states have alot of shall we say.....government "assistance" people.

GM killed Oldsmobile and Pontiac.

Those two brands saw me through my youth and early adulthood. Now they are gone.

So am I gone as a GM customer, EVER again!

If GM ever decided to get rid of unions and produce quality vehicles like union-free Toyota I might reconsider.
Toyota just announced that they are moving one of their vehicle manufacturing FROM Japan TO Europe.

I thought European-style "Socialism" was bad for business?

Did you happen to notice the reasons Toyota gave for this move?
The cost of manufacturing in Japan, since the tsunami/nuclear meltdown.

It's no different than GM building in China. You go where the profit is. Funny thing, prior to Obama giving GM the money to move there you all used to bitch about companies moving jobs overseas.

"Socialist"/living-wage-paying/lavish-benefit France is the same thing as slave-wage China?

How fucking stupid are you?

Apparently not as stupid as you. They are building where the demand is to avoid export and import expenses.

Idiot
They didn't pick Albania, did they?

and they would probably be doing as good if not better, but we will never know.
As mentioned earlier now they can pay the taxpayers back.

They are jealous, because they are all on welfare.

Funny seeing you all supporting SUV's.
Actually, I've been working my way thru the wingnut comments before getting to that.

If they are just returning to making huge Fuck-You-Mobiles that get 17 MPG, then I am against it. If these are all hybrids that get at least 30 MPG, I feel a little better about it, but I still hate these living rooms on wheels. Nobody needs it. And I hate being stuck behind them, not being able to see what's happening up ahead.

Those highly-tauted hybrids use electricity that probably would add up to 10 mpg, if it was conveniently forgotten that electricity comes from burning coal, damming up rivers that kills innocent fish, nuclear energy, that could, but sadly did not sink Jane Fonda to China and even the politically correct, but futile on Quixotic windmills that kill innocent, but Democratically minded birds.

If the left is able to think without becoming hysterical they might consider that there are two types of unions. Labor unions make products that we presumably purchase and Municipal unions are paid by taxpayers including labor union workers. Even a high profile democrat like Rahm Emanuel who was elected mayor of Chicago is fighting municipal unions who are sucking the City dry with elaborate demands. My guess is that the Chevy plant in Texas hired a 3rd shift in spite of unions not because of them.

In any negotiation with a union, there are two sides. If the side holding the money bag truly cannot afford the demands of the union, then they can say "NO". And if they say "YES" when they should be saying "NO", then you vote the idiots out. That does not mean that the unions are evil and that we should take away their rights to collective bargaining.

It amazes me how we blame the unions for getting the best deal possible for their workers, which is in fact what they are supposed to do, and we let those making out the checks and agreeing to the deal off the hook. Instead of blaming the idiots who agree to bad deals, we have people wanting to make unions illegal. It's fucking comical.

Yeah they'll learn when they get 2 cars made and have to pay for 20 week vacations. Oh and in the time they're working half of that will be striking. Hell even my French teacher in college made jokes about striking in France.

Uh that's why we dont mind them in right to work states, because people can opt out of union labor. And because people arent forced to join unions to get a job. The NLRB wont even allow Boeing to put a plant in South Carolina, so I think your scenario is a wee bit flawed.

Had Obama not given the "money bag" to the union you might have a point. As it is you just look foolish.

Not to mention the money people save on gas wont equal the difference in cost for about 5 years, when it's you guessed time to trade it in.
