Unionized GM plant adds third shift

ARLINGTON -- General Motors will add a third shift and about 800 jobs to its Arlington truck assembly plant early next year, the company announced Friday, a boost that adds to previously announced expansions.

In total, GM will now add upwards of 1,100 employees to the Arlington plant's payroll in the next year as it prepares to launch a new line of large SUVs for the 2014 model year. Workers have been putting in overtime to meet production demands for the plant's SUVs.

Good for GM

Shows that the american taxpayers faith in them was warranted

Obama saved GM.

Romney said, "Let Detroit go bankrupt."

That means restructuring not go out of business forever so you know

so every company that goes bankrupt still exsists?
Eastern Airlines is coming back, baby! They are just working out those last few bankruptcy details!

Wrong. Even with the loans, the auto companies did restructure through chapter 11 bankruptcy. GM and Chrysler themselves, as well as other economists, agreed that without that loans, they would have been forced to file chapter 7 and liquidate.

Do you not know about the credit crunch that immediately followed the Bush recession? Did you not know that auto loans were almost impossible to get when the banks started to fail?

So you lefties are so desperate for some good news youre going to overlook that its gas guzzlers that are being built to accommodate demand.

Praising Obama > environment

Lololol

Rather like you are dismissing the good news about jobs in order to attack lefties for a supposed abandonment of environmental principle, you mean?

why does the right hate employees having a say in the work place?
They are jealous, because they are all on welfare.

Talk about a nonsensical hack statement. We dont mind the employees having a say, how about if they want to pay union dues?

They also can tell the employer to "Take this job and shove it"

I think that's having a say, but I guess that soviet style unions are "exempted" from your rights. Why do unions have to force people?

Why have they in the past had to force people to join unions or die from a mafia hitman?

Funny seeing you all supporting SUV's.
Actually, I've been working my way thru the wingnut comments before getting to that.

If they are just returning to making huge Fuck-You-Mobiles that get 17 MPG, then I am against it. If these are all hybrids that get at least 30 MPG, I feel a little better about it, but I still hate these living rooms on wheels. Nobody needs it. And I hate being stuck behind them, not being able to see what's happening up ahead.

Not to mention the fact that the bailout gave them the opportunity to restructure numerous parts of their business, including union agreements, that they would not have had under normal circumstances.

Yup Trucks and SUV's. Vehicles people actually want and that generate profit. How's the Volt doing? How about the other little shit boxes they have to pedal below cost to make the CAFE standards?

I never said they were.

Obama saved GM.

Romney said, "Let Detroit go bankrupt."

GM killed Oldsmobile and Pontiac.

Those two brands saw me through my youth and early adulthood. Now they are gone.

So am I gone as a GM customer, EVER again!

If GM ever decided to get rid of unions and produce quality vehicles like union-free Toyota I might reconsider.

LOL!! nothing says america like buying a foreign car! Not to mention toyota, the company with one of the biggest recalls ever for gas pedals sticking and causing accidents. Then more recalls for the power steering belts coming off, then there was even more recalls for toyota's lexus SUV's flipping over,...

ahhh, crappy over seas made, non-union products. Nothing is more american to right wingers than that! (maybe besides sleeping with your cousin)

We will wait till Obama isn't president to discuss how damaging those gas guzzlers are on the environment. For now praising Obama>environmental issues.

Toyota just announced that they are moving one of their vehicle manufacturing FROM Japan TO Europe.

I thought European-style "Socialism" was bad for business?
