.....Volkswagen is so concerned about flagging sales that it has taken the extraordinary decision of halting electric vehicle production at one of its biggest plants. Assembly lines for electric models will be paused for six weeks at the Emden factory in northwest Germany and 300 of its 1,500 staff laid off after sales fell 30pc short of forecasts.

This means production of the new VW ID.7 electric model, which had been due to commence in July will be pushed back until the end of the year. The ID.4 electric SUV and the upcoming ID.7 electric sedan will also be delayed.

“We are experiencing strong customer reluctance in the electric vehicle sector,” plant boss Manfred Wulff said.

That is remarkably plain language from the largest car manufacturer on the planet, and a company that recently announced plans to invest €120bn (£103bn) over the next five years in “electrification and digitalisation”.

It comes months after Ford poured cold water on the shift to electric with thousands of job losses in Europe. Electric vehicle production is unable to support anything like the same number of jobs that petrol and diesel models are able to sustain, it said. Boss Jim Farley estimates that 40pc fewer staff will be needed to develop battery versions.

A generation of pure electric vehicle makers has hardly fared any better. On Tuesday, Lordstown Motors, the US electric truck specialist that Donald Trump once heralded as the saviour of a depressed Ohio town, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Even Elon Musk has been forced to repeatedly cut the price of Teslas in a desperate effort to prop up demand and protect market share.

Eventually if the product doesn't fit the consumer requirements......They don't sell.....How did automakers forget that?

It doesn't matter how hard the leftists try to manipulate the market you can't mask that with "Well the EV appeal is becoming more selective is all” BS to explain away the waning support.

Not to mention the armies of child slaves mining cobalt and lithium for bare subsistence, in enormous pits, knee deep in toxic water.

But hey, highly educated white blue-burb women feel better about themselves......That is the real EV universe.

Let me ask you a simple question: Have these downturns ever happened before with gasoline powered cars?

You say they have? So this is cyclical and actually a common occurrence?

Have gasoline powered cars suffered from slumping sales before? They have?

Did any of these factors cause ICE vehicles to cancel production? Yes, they have, and many plants have closed across this country. That's business. No one is immune.

Elon Musk will continue to keep cutting prices when more choices are made available to consumers. Tesla remains the undisputed leader, for now.

My son got a Tesla a couple of years ago. He thought it was the Cat's Meow back then.

Two years later he thinks EVs sucks and wants to get rid of it and will not replace it with another EV.

I'm not a fan of the EV push and I won't buy one but the video in the OP misrepresents the topic. That's an acetylene explosion:

I knew right away when I saw the OP video clip that it wasn't an EV car. I've been a safety trainer in the welding supply industry for years and have shown that video to trainees several times.

LI battery technology is terrible for vehicles. Fine for a weed edger or hand held power drill but shitty for vehicles.

Out in full sun on hot days a 20V lithium battery in a blower will overheat and shut off repeatedly. Fact//

In large part, "they" are building the wrong cars. Overweight, overpowered, short range vehicles will not help anything. Something closer to what the Beetle was would be very popular; i.e., a car that holds five people and can go 110 kph for 1000 km.

The shock over the fact that EV's are never going to replace gas cars 1 to 1 is so far too hard to bear and so the denialists need to pretend that they're supposed to do it.

The hard cold fact is that one EV will replace no more than about 10% of gas vehicles, and so then comes the shock factor.

Mass transit is the world's future.

Some countries have already taken the shock and are half way there.

Cuba is all the way there!

To understand the issue: Greedy capitalists have always been denialists, be it seatbelts, airbags, collision protection, pollution control, or dozens of other progressive changes made.

This issue only differs in that the consequences of ignoring climate change will bite everybody's asses more severely than the other examples.

Enjoy the topic but keep this in mind!

Other consequences that life serves up to denialists. I see no other remedy other than praying to the god to make EV's more safe and reliable.

Seriously, our future seems so dim without help from the sky?
And yes, I know it's a longshot!

The planet has plenty of oil. Always producing new.

You gotta charge an EV. Earth to loon. Use it if you you can find one that works. I'll use my 35mpg 4CYL. Leave me alone.

All the way in the shitter.

Cuba is all the way there!

All the way in the shitter.
No, all the way there on eliminating an over-abundance of gas cars.
And they've come up with several mass transit solutions to serve the people's needs.

The world's industrialized countries should have a close look at Cuba!

You destroy your economy; you don't need much fossil fuel.

They did. And then they pointed and laughed.

Russia too is demonstrating innovations and resilience in the face of some opposition from a minority of the world.

Other countries are in debt for more than their entire economy is worth!

Cuba's life expectancy is roughly equal or better than America'a and it could be partially due to having clean air to breathe. As well as having free health care on demand for all their people.
