They want the black guy out of office and until that happens they're going to drag their feet and scream like little bitches about every single possible issue whether it's sensical or even sane or not. If the roles were reversed and Bush was in office right now, they'd be accusing everyone who wanted to fix the budgetary issues of being Anti-American terrorists.

At least Bush had a budget....what do you guys have?

I didn't answer the poll because it didn't have my answer.....tell Obama to put together and pass a budget, then we'll talk about the debt ceiling!

What do Republicans want?

For the federal government to stop spending at levels which require 40% to be funded by new debt.

Dear they have introduced 30 Balanced Budget Amendments since Jeffersons first. Demcorats have killed every one!! Do you know why??

ROTFLMAO!!!

Ronald Reagan got less than he asked for seven of the eight years he was in office. He still managed to double the debt. Add the Bush41 four years and between the two of them they quadrupled it. You should tune away from Fox, Glenn Beck and lard assed Lush Rambo and get some education.

See why we are positive a liberal will be slow, so very very slow.

The debt ceiling is not the problem...it is but an indicator of sloppy government...and ineffective presidential leadership. Congress should begin to defund Obabble's programs...start with Obabblecare.

 But that would require passing a budget. You don't expect congress to actually do its job do you?

too bad we didn't pass Newts Balanced Budget Amendment. It passed the house and fell one vote short in the Senate. It was the
30th BBA libturds killed. Today debt would be $0, not $16 trillion with $50 trillion in unfunded lliabilities

They should be made illegal as the Constitution intended.

Barack Obama has stated over and over again that the American people wanted him to use a "balanced" approach to shrinking the deficit. So the compromise to avoid the fiscal cliff brought us $40 in tax increases for every $1 in spending cuts. Where is the "balance" in those numbers and when should we expect to see some meaningful cuts from this Administration?

why are you obsessed with obama's skin color? you degrade him by bringing it up so often, as if it is a crutch.

It's all about playing the Left's favorite....the RACE CARD! As for degrading Obama by bringing it up....not as much as they degrade themselves for bringing it up.

Yeah that's not it either.

Then why aren't the problems before government being fixed and dealt with?

It takes two to tango. It takes three to fix any problem in the federal government. The Democrats control two of the three, and they refuse to play. The President has submitted three budgets (late). None of them even passed the laugh test in the Democrat senate, let alone serious consideration. The House has passed three budgets, and the Democrat senate will not even look at them. Democrats have turned the legislative process into a joke. They are not competent to govern anything.

.

I know the Republicans are very upset about the debt ceiling issue, so just to clarify, two part question:

1. In your heart of hearts, what would you like to see happen here? Specifically?

2. Assuming that Obama refuses to debate the debt ceiling, what would you like to see happen, specifically?

.

Why would the president decide to debate paying the interest on a Reagan/Bushes debt? That's all this is.....paying the interest on money which has already been spent:

I love that little joke about a surplus, then somehow all that debt just "reappeared" after the Clinton years. Wow, I needed a good laugh  can we possibly stretch this any further, without admitting to how much spending has actually gone on in the last 5 years?

Hahaha! isn't that funny? What a big joke it is to see how Right WIngers have duped the public into believing that Obama is thie BIG spender when in fact he has spent less than any president since Eisenhower! Oh Oh! there is an eerie silence in here. Where is all the laughter? FOr even more fun and jokes, read this link:

Defense department only amounts to a 20% of the total budget, in comparison, to a much larger piece of the pie that's left to entitlement spending. They also already cut defense spending ..... They have yet to cut and reform entitlements.

Also what would Dems know about spending, when this administration had yet to pass a single budget?

Defense may not account for as much as entitlements do, but it's spending that's easily cut. Return to prewar spending levels, close foreign military bases, dismantle the DHS, slash and burn money pits like the osprey.

Obamacare is spending that's easily cut as it has yet to be fully implemented into the lives of many Americans. It's a bill that has produced zero jobs to help the economy, and it's only an ideological plan that has already failed to lower the promised costs when Massachusetts looked to establish its own government controlled Health Care system.

Further government incentives towards the Chevy Volt is another program that failed to bring about consumer demand as Obama had hoped. Cutting funding towards other green projects that only went bankrupt, is yet another example of wasted government spending this administration can do without.

The military has already experienced cuts, it's about time Obama got serious about this debt and look to entitlements (the bigger problem of bleeding government spending).

I agree with you on the Volt and Obamacare, but the defense cuts we've had so far (and even the ones planned) are minor and in all the wrong areas. What's the first thing that gets hit when there's a defense cut? The troops. Yet we still have hundreds of foreign bases, a useless department, and various wasteful projects.

Are you inferring that Social Security and Medicare are "entitlements?" Entitlements my arse... those programs are insurance programs duly paid through payroll taxes. The same baby boomers who are now retiring paid for decades into those programs and it is NOT their fault that money in excess of that needed to pay beneficiaries from those surplus years was diverted into the general Fund. Now, for the first time, payroll taxes aren't enough to cover payouts so interest from the "borrowed" surplus money covers any shortfall! Do you want to renege on that promise and possibly plunge millions of people who worked all their lives into abject poverty in their most vulnerable years?

You can't possibly be a working man! Your frame of mind is not one that has labored in, sacrificed for and paid into a system that Republicans would dismantle if they could!

I'm not a Republican, but every person in this country should be upset that they want to raise this debt ceiling yet again.

I would like to see Obama and Reid forced to pass a budget. At this point, I'll even take a budget that does not actually balance, but a budget is the minimum. I want those fucks held accountable for every dime they spend. Every fucking dime. I do NOT want them having permission to continue to spend beyond their means. This means that when the debt ceiling is reached, they must start cutting in other departments to meet their obligations. A budget that cuts spending to levels of income would be the best solution.

If Obama refuses to cut spending as he has promised in the past, then shut the government down. The only payments made by the government are to service the interest on the debt, the debt itself and the Military.

Nothing else gets a dime until Obama and Reid sit down and cut spending, or until November, 2014.

8 trillion dollars collected between now and 2014 would go a very long ways toward paying down the debt.

What do the Republicans want? To go far beyond the debt ceiling to ensure that Obama is blamed for the resulting financial mess.

Repubs don't give a shit about the American people. They care about making Obama look as incompetent as they can.

Just a few inconvenient truths.
1. BO voted against raising the debt ceiling (correctly), and now feigns outrage.
2. We simply can't keep borrowing $0.40 of every dollar we spend
3. Its time to make a big correction to the Budget mess to save SS & Medicare

The GOP should pass an extension of the Debt Ceiling for 2-months, just long enough to ensure that sequestration happens. Those mandatory cuts will save the US when the DC whores won't do their jobs and balance the budget.

We need to get spending and revenue about 20% of GDP to right the economy for the long term.

Yeah...something they don't mention. It's hard to save much money when one has started two wars(off budget) one totally by choice and unnecessary. Another thing they try to brush under the carpet....Clinton raised taxes, created 22 million jobs, during fy's 1999, 2000 and 2001 actually bought back close to $400 billion of our debt....the entire debt on a path to be completely settled by 2012. Then in 2001 when Bush took over he cut taxes twice and began to double the debt again.

Yeah, I frankly never know which "studies" and "graphs" to believe, but if this sucker is true, it would not surprise me. The GOP loves to ignore the fact that Reagan and Dubya were military Keynesians. And I'd love to see a response to it, without the standard spin, diversion or personal insults, of course. Maybe it's wrong.

Anyone?

.

Why in the hell do some of you people think that Congress wants to resolve the debt mess?

That would require that they do some work. Make decisions. Defend their decisions. Maybe even piss off some big money contributors.

No the debt works much better to keep people like us pissed off at one another. Do you really think any person in Congress gives a flying fuk about the things we like to think they care about? Where's your proof?

Repubs have exploded the debt under Rethug Presidents. Rethugs didn't worry a bit about the explosion of debt under George Bush.

No, when the spending benefits the people whose support you desire, there is no one in Congress who has the balls to do anything about it. Other than get in front of a TV and pander to their base. Look at me look at me I hate washington that's why I wanted to come here. I hate government.

You folks who think they (Congress) do care (about debt) are delusional. It just make a great talking point. And keeps them from having to do any real work. And keeps them in office. Where they get rich and pampered. Great job if you can land it.

Yep, can't argue a bit.

1. Balanced Budget Amendment
2. Strict Term Limits
3. Publicly-Funded Elections

Take the power away from those who most abuse it.

HOW? I agree with the three changes you proposed. But how do you convince the very people who benefit from not having those things in place, to put them in place?

Why would they want to give up their comfy "jobs"?

We should have put those changes in place years ago. A hundred years ago. We have now allowed a monster to be created that we, the people can no longer control. IMO.
