What republican supporters want is a reduction in spending, for the government to live within its means. But don't you dare do it by touching their sacred cow of defense.

this is because money will do us no good if we are forced to live under folks like HItler Stalin and Mao. Get it, defense matters

What republicans in washinton want is political theater. They want to draw lines in the sand and create divisiveness. It makes it easier for them to get elected.

too stupid!! What they want is what they have wanted since Jefferson formed the Party in 1793: limited government.

Do you have any idea what America stands for and what made it great???

Republicans will be taken seriously when they put in writing their own spending cuts -

* and if they include the Defense Dept.

Defense department only amounts to a 20% of the total budget, in comparison, to a much larger piece of the pie that's left to entitlement spending. They also already cut defense spending ..... They have yet to cut and reform entitlements.

Also what would Dems know about spending, when this administration had yet to pass a single budget?

Defense may not account for as much as entitlements do, but it's spending that's easily cut. Return to prewar spending levels, close foreign military bases, dismantle the DHS, slash and burn money pits like the osprey.

If someone like that takes over they won't do it with a ground force. They'll do it from the inside and have control of that bloated military you're so proud of.

Republicans, for limited government? Do you actually follow politics at all? That answer is so ignorant of reality that I can't even begin to address it.

30 Balanced Budget Amendmends since Jefferson's first and all killed by Democrats

Republicans sign the pledge not Democrats!!

What I find interesting is that Bush raised the debt ceiling 17 times, and you never heard an effing PEEP out of the whiny right.

its hypocritical perhaps but not very interesting. They obviously were not Tea Party Republicans or Jefffersonian Republicans or Libertarian Republicans.
Make sense now??

.

I know the Republicans are very upset about the debt ceiling issue, so just to clarify, two part question:

1. In your heart of hearts, what would you like to see happen here? Specifically?

2. Assuming that Obama refuses to debate the debt ceiling, what would you like to see happen, specifically?

.

Why would the president decide to debate paying the interest on a Reagan/Bushes debt? That's all this is.....paying the interest on money which has already been spent:

Live within our means now! Stop the phony math. We take in 2.2 trillion. we need to spend 2.1 trillion, and use most of the rest to pay down the debt. Treat it like you would your household budget. The debt is a cancer - treat it that way! No increase without a balanced budget amendment.[/QUOTE]

Teeheehee. You think THIS Congress could put together that kind of legislation in what, three weeks or so? LMAO.

And please tell me, cause snippy won't, how will the debt and deficit hurt us more over the next 12 months than the default on our bills would hurt us? I know how the default will hurt, but tell me what you think the debt will do over a year?

And did you know the fastest and easiest way out of this mess is to grow the economy? Tax revenue from people working. How would default on our debt help grow our economy?

What do Republicans want?

For the federal government to stop spending at levels which require 40% to be funded by new debt.

How would default on our debt help grow our economy?

dear, no body wants a default just firm rules that force us to live within our means like responsible adults.

IF we make Democrats illegal like the Constitution intended, with these firm rules, we would have this instantly!!

Dear they have introduced 30 Balanced Budget Amendments since Jeffersons first. Demcorats have killed every one!! Do you know why??

You know what dude? I ain't your "dear". That's kinda weird of you.

But anyway. It really don't matter what you want. Obama will not negogiate on the debt ceiling. Congress is responsible for paying the bills. Congress may crash the economy, again. No matter what you or I want.

And just what "firm rules" are you speaking of. Isn't that the entire issue. It may be fine for you or me to just say; cut the spending. Cool, sounds great. But someone has to say what spending is to be cut. Do they not have to do that? Repugs in the majority in the house. Wtf do they want to cut and how much? You think thats to much to ask of people sent to Washington to do this very kind of thing?

The Democratic-Republican Party (The Party of Jefferson) is the ancestor of the present day Democratic Party.

Didn't any of you people take a history class?

SO, they only got serious about the debt when Obama got elected? Yes, we already knew that - hence the astroturf that sprang up shortly after. The whiners were alive during the worst presidency imagineable (you know, the one that enacted many of the policies that got us here in the first place debt-wise) why did they not feel the urgency then? Why now are they suddenly SO HAND-WRINGINGLY DISTRAUGHT about it? Hmmm... I wonder...

dear, Congress, the president and people will crash the economy. After all its the people who send a divided government to Washington !!

And just what "firm rules" are you speaking of.

a Balanced Budget Amendment for example or a cap on all spending until debt and deficit are gone.

Wtf do they want to cut and how much? You think thats to much to ask of people sent to Washington to do this very kind of thing?

who cares what they cut, as if they know now what they want to cut. Once there is a Balanced Budget Amendment or cap like all people and companies have then they will have to earn there pay and decide as will Obama!!

WOW dude. You are so far out in lala land, I'm sorry I wasted my time. You're no better than the stupid fukers got elected. At some point you have to DO something. You just a "Big Picture" kinda guy. LMAO. All hat, no cattle. Isn't that what they say in Texas?

This is about spending cuts...conservatives want them and liberals don't. President Obama essentially wants a "no limit" credit card that he can keep using to fund his progressive agenda with future generations of Americans being saddled with the payments. Republicans are tired of promises that are never kept on this issue.

Making cuts is a tough thing to do. It makes people unhappy. Nonetheless it's what's called for if we want to stay solvent as a nation.

Time for Barack Obama to "man up" and start doing the hard work of being a leader...instead of giveaways it's time for him to do the right thing. I personally don't think he has the back bone for it.

Obamacare is spending that's easily cut as it has yet to be fully implemented into the lives of many Americans. It's a bill that has produced zero jobs to help the economy, and it's only an ideological plan that has already failed to lower the promised costs when Massachusetts looked to establish its own government controlled Health Care system.

Further government incentives towards the Chevy Volt is another program that failed to bring about consumer demand as Obama had hoped. Cutting funding towards other green projects that only went bankrupt, is yet another example of wasted government spending this administration can do without.

The military has already experienced cuts, it's about time Obama got serious about this debt and look to entitlements (the bigger problem of bleeding government spending).

I love that little joke about a surplus, then somehow all that debt just "reappeared" after the Clinton years. Wow, I needed a good laugh  can we possibly stretch this any further, without admitting to how much spending has actually gone on in the last 5 years?
