President roosevelt: "the economic bill of rights"

Among these are:

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

The right of every family to a decent home;

The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America’s own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for our citizens.

An utter folly and fantasy based on the concept of infinite money and spending regardless of the cost to those who supply it and are denied their rights to freedom they would then supply on all others.

Let's hear it for the return of the pro-slavery agenda! Hooray! :rofl: :rolleyes:

PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT: "THE ECONOMIC BILL OF RIGHTS"

"***

“The Economic Bill of Rights”

Excerpt from President Roosevelt's January 11, 1944 message to the Congress of the United States on the State of the Union

"It is our duty now to begin to lay the plans and determine the strategy for the winning of a lasting peace and the establishment of an American standard of living higher than ever before known. We cannot be content, no matter how high that general standard of living may be, if some fraction of our people—whether it be one-third or one-fifth or one-tenth—is ill-fed, ill-clothed, ill-housed, and insecure.

This Republic had its beginning, and grew to its present strength, under the protection of certain inalienable political rights—among them the right of free speech, free press, free worship, trial by jury, freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. They were our rights to life and liberty.

As our nation has grown in size and stature, however—as our industrial economy expanded—these political rights proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness.

We have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. “Necessitous men are not free men.” People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.

In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

The right of every family to a decent home;

The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America’s own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for our citizens.

Roosevelt's words convey as much meaning as they did when first uttered,
and they are as timely today as they were then.

FDR's words, in that particular writing, were idiotic then and remain idiotic to this day.

The economic bill of rights.

We the Government can make you purchase any damn thing we want.

Can you feel the liberty?

Maybe because FDR gave people hope. And he did give people somethings to hope for in the New Deal legislation. At least a Democrat will do something for the little guy. Ask yourself, what has a Republican ever done for you? Nothing, nada, zilch. Its the party of the rich, told to me by my great grandfather who was born in 1870 and it's true to this day.

They know no history outside soundbites & commercials. FDR remains one of the finest this nation has ever had, kept us going through the Great Depression, which began in 1929, and brought us out stronger, and the greatest nation on earth. When Roosevelt took office unemployment was 24.8%; why do so many here know so little US history?

How is 20% unemployment helpful to the "little guy"?

Jesus the ACA again.

Answer the damn question ....How much higher will prices go before it becomes affordable.

:lol: you parrots are all alike.

The anti FDR crowd doesn't know US history from UVB rays. Ever been to Key West? Thank FDR, that and other PORTS were part of the WPA, derided by the D students* (in US history). Tens of thousands of acres cleaned, some cleared, and waterways created. That one man could do so much for this nation is difficult to grasp. But he did, when we were on the verge of collapse, he brought us back; while the appeasers wanted to beg Hitler for mercy, and economic aid, he remained firm in the defense of liberty.

*I understand why some term Bush II's C- grades at Yale, "gentleman's Cs". They got Ds & Fs in US history, and think a C is GOOD grade.

Whereas your heroes create utopias like Germany, Italy, Spain, and Japan, circa 1940.

Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot Chavez and Fidel are all on your side of the ledger: state runs everything

FDR sucked, he wanted to be America's Joe Stalin

Oh I see raise prices through this BS 50% and let them come down 20% and tell you it is wonderful in utopia.

Really?

Yeah, he did something for the little guy, like make the Depression last 8 years longer than it should have lasted.

Great humanitarian!
