NY Times: Abolish The Constitution

.

Install the following rules and the Constitution would not need to be changed further:

1. Balanced Budget Amendment
2. Strict term limits
3. Publicly-funded elections

Take the power out of the hands of those who are abusing it by taking away their motivations to do so.

.

1. As much as I believe in balanced budgets, there are times when the government will need run a deficit, like during a recession or a war. Imagine your life as an adult if you could never borrow money for anything.

2. Term limits are a double edged sword. Yes it forces crooks out of office, but it also forces out experienced legislators who work hard on their constituents behalf. It takes time for elected officials to learn the ropes in Washington, and how to get things done. And about the time that they really know what they're doing, they time limit is up.

What I would rather see than term limits is to subject legislators to the same conflict of interest laws in stock trading that the rest of us live with. Legislators are free to profit from insider information. Lucky them.

3. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Get rid of lobbyists' money and PAC's.

We had publically funded elections in Canada. Each party received something like $2 for every vote they received, but the Conservative Party recently stopped that saying it was a waste of taxpayers' money. The Conservative Party is currently swimming in cash and the Liberals are broke. This may have had something to do with the change in election financing. Now we have US-style financing. Oh joy, oh bliss.

The one area where your Constitution is really deficient is that women are not equal under the law. It is shameful that in this day and age, that the Republican Party fought so hard against the ERA in the 1970's. Women should have equal rights under the law. I don't know why anyone would think otherwise.

The right to bear arms was a HUGE mistake. It's given the US the highest murder rate in the first world and the highest rate of violent crime. Sadly, there are now so many guns in the hands of the general public that even if all guns were banned tomorrow, you will never get rid of them. Bad, idea, very bad idea.

The system of checks and balances only works when there is will to co-operate. That will is gone.

Of course liberals intend to abolish the Constitution. It's what they intended all along. I'm glad they are finally saying it.

Actually, the first low life motherfucker to say that was one Ape Lincoln.

.

"Ape" Lincoln? Holy shit...

some of his contemporaries referred to him as the " original gorilla"

We don't need "Free Press" we need a press that is carefully monitored

Spoken like a true communist. Every communist country carefully controlled its press because you wouldn't want people to know the truth now would you? Here's another little tidbit. There is little difference whether oppression comes from the left or the right - it's still oppression.

The right-wing of the Republican party is already re-writing history books in some states to give the books a "more conservative slant". If your message has to be "controlled" to this extent, it suggests to me that you're lying and you don't want the truth to get out.

Does the idiot reporter understand that it would mean the end of his freedom of press????? Nope cause like all retard fascists he doesn't think the shit will ever splatter on him.

It is obvious that because the Founding Fathers did not go to MIT,UCLA, HARVARD,YALE,Kent state, or any other what you call wonderfull college you think they are not smart and now your social liberal groups are smarter. Just remember and you are proving it COMMON SENSE IS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE SCHEDULE .
Many of the founding fathers did go to Yale, Harvard, Columbia (Kings college, then), Princeton and other colleges.
In fact, the majority of those who attended the Constitutional Convention were college graduates.

Well who was that and did they get a pell grant??

Yes the ERA sure made it better for women, now they have to work, take care of the kids, clean house, fight with the school systems,go on welfare, get free milk and cheese, and if lucky cell phones.
All with out a husband cause he can not find a good job and they got devorced, and she is now sleeping with some bum so she can get by. Or she can be a lesbian and maybe make some extra money talking about her lover on tv. Yea women have it better alright because of the Dems and ERA.

Have to be first in something other than Basketball.

The Bible and Constitution are both outdated relics of the past. We need to start over with fresh material.

She may be right. The time of individual rights and freedoms is over. Every society that starts off with a good amount of liberty deteriorates into more centralized government control over time. We will be no different. Those without think that if they support the government taking from those with that they will reap benefits and imagined equalities. Of course we wise people know that only the politicians and their already rich friends are getting rich and nobody is any safer, freer, richer, healthier, etc. At least America is bouncy and fun because our politics and foreign views are about as cotton picking ridiculous as any nation on Earth.

Native Americans were doing just fine before whitey and his Constitution came along...

American Indians Enslaved by the Federal Government

Libertarian TV reporter John Stoessel does an excellent exposé on how the United States Department of the Interior is destroying the last vestiges of the American Indian population in this country through the "carrot stick" of government welfare. What's almost as outrageous as this atrocious situation itself occurs at the end of this exposé when Stoessel attempts to interview then-Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt about it and Babbitt refuses to be interviewed."

In America the free press has voluntarily chosen for itself to disseminate only government propaganda. Techinically it is still a free press.

When the Constitution is gone, and it very nearly is now, there will be no America. It will still exist as a geographic expression of what the landmass is named. The idea of America will be gone. In perfect irony, liberals will still think that the nation deserves the same loyalty and respect as America did when it truly existed.

It was put in place to stop such a government we have now. Do you understand? This isn't the Astec, Maya or Inca Empires your people had with empiror that ruled by decree.

Hardly. It was written by a bunch of men from the 18th century who had no idea of drive-by shootings, semi-automatic weapons, urban decay, the rights of women or non-whites. I think the founding fathers are rolling in their graves at what has happened to their "more perfect union", global terrorism or instant communications world-wide.

A constitution which which is not reflective of its times, it a dead document.

Huh?

What the fuck does drive-by shootings, urban decay the right of women and non whites has to do with the Constitution?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
