Michael Patrick Leahy, a member of the National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, said " We want to broaden the scope to address the President`s runaway march to socialist-statism, and the rampant across the board irresponsible spending he is promoting with his $787 Billion Stimulus Plan and his $1 Trillion Annual Deficit, his takeover of General Motors, Chrysler and the

Am reluctant to say this, but it is still my gut reaction after sitting here for awhile thinking about it. As stated, this looks like a potential trap that could marginalize the nascent Tea Party movement.

Obama has a huge well of knowledge available from his policy people (whether one agrees with them or not) that, at least right now, the Tea Party leaders are unlikely to possess. If they go out and prepare themselves, that may be help.

It is also in a town hall atmosphere where true debate over complex issues is not possible. Lastly, Obama is the most skilled orator of our time and the public is emotionally involved in these issues but not particularly well informed. And the public is still in his thrall. No one in the Tea Party movement will have that level of currency with a national audience.

It is a mud cocktail by my lights.

Just in the way Obama stated it, shows that it is a trap...

"how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term"... that insists that the govt is responsible for your personal healthcare... and by simply stating they want to keep the costs down, shows here is not a willingness to keep it out of government like it should be

I applaud the president is willing to hear out and debate his most strident opposition. What a change from the previous situation.

BO has no intention of meeting with this movement, he was trying to mock it.

That is how it's done with budding tyrants, mock the people who don't support you, BO is only your president if you support him 100%, according to BO that is.

He's my president but I certainly don't agree with him 100%, so I guess that's another thing I don't agree with him.

I still really don't know what the tea-baggers were protesting on April 15th. It just seemed like a hodge-podge of people protesting right wing-nut red-meat issues like abortion, illegal immigration, bank bail outs loans to the auto industry...oh, and something about unfair taxation, which isn't going to be an issue for anyone making les than $250,000 a year.

Oh and, Mr. Leahy should review the definition of "socialism". After all anyone who has Tim Geithner and Larry Summers as part of their administration is most definitely NOT a socialist. And where was Mr. Leahy when Chimpy McPresident, a.k.a. Dubbyuh or Shrub, was running up budget busting deficits?

Last, but not least, he might want to consider dropping the tea-bag motif. It has led to some unfortunate, but amusing, faux pas and double entendre.

This is all very easily explained.. You are a DUmmie! no one expects you to understand.

Explain what? Your predilection for tea-bagging?

I rest my case! Bingo

Stop being such a partisan hack. None of us agree with Obama 100%. But even if you didn't vote for him, as an American citizen he is YOUR president.

Would George Bush have met with Cindy Sheehan in the height of her protesting the war in Iraq?

I applaud Obama for this. Obviously this is going to be a free form of questions where the public can ask any question they want and I'm sure the Tea Party leadership will hold Obama accountable for the spending spree the government is on and ask the tough questions that the previous administration would never have been able to tolerate.

When you pay taxes, you pay his salary. He's offering to be held accountable for his work to the people who are against him the most in this nation. I really, really applaud this.

What is hard to understand about a group of people who demonstrated behind the base message of 'government spending going out of control'?

Because they're not protesting spending. They're mostly protesting raising taxes on the rich to pay for the spending. Of course, 99% of the people who are protesting received a tax cut recently. How many of them have been willing to give the money back in protest?

Yeah, people only care that the 'rich' aren't being taxed more, they don't give a damn about government spending at all. :eusa_eh:

Get real.

You are full of crap! plain and simple.

I'm protesting the over spending and control over everything in our lives. The control they are giving to the UN. I'm protesting the report from DHS as well.

Bullypulpit, anyone who uses the term 'teabag' to describe the Tea Party movement doesn't get it.
