Marsha Blackburn: "Save the Incandescent Lightbulb!"

Just for anyone who wants a good laugh

Save The Incandescent Light Bulb U.S. Congressman Marsha Blackburn

House Rep Marsha Blackburn (TN) is sponsoring a bill (HR 91) to save the incandescent lightbulb.....

...

Really, this is real. She believes Obama's energy standards are going to lead to the incandescent lightbulb disappearing and not being available to middle class Americans. She lists this as one of her top 7 priorities for her current term in Congress.

What's up for next year Marsha? "Save the Fax Machine"? "Save the Dial-up Modem"? "Save the Pay Phone"?
The Obama admin had no right banning the incandescent light bulb. This was done to placate the enviro wackos. Note, GE was given virtual tax exempt status by Obama if the company agreed to go along with that stupid green energy initiative....
Now, should there be more efficient ways of lighting our communities. Absolutely. The government should not be picking winners and losers to accomplish this.
Left to advance lighting technology, CFC's would never have hit the market. Instead we'd see a far more widespread use of LED bulbs.
In fact LED's are far cooler, give off more light than CFC's and last longer. There is no "lag" time for operation of LED's. They are instant on/off...
I refuse to buy CFC's....I use LED bulbs. And why? Because those pricks in Washington thought they could ram those pieces of shit down our throats.

you mean CFL's....compact fluorescent lamp (or light). CFC's are the chemicals that were banned due to creating ozone holes.

Anybody with half a brain KNOWS the new bulbs contain Mercury. So while saving energy they are toxic for land fills and life as we know it.

We did NOT have that problem with the old bulbs. So you are saving a penny a month and killing the planet. That makes YOU the fool.

Don't forget that some actually have physical problems with exposure to florescent lights for extended periods.
You'd be surprised that a rather significant proportion of the population is bothered in one way or another by florescent lighting.
I am not a big fan either.

which bulbs are those? LEDs? high-efficiency halogens?
or are you worried about the CFL, the ones that save much more than a penny a month, are recyclable, and only contain about 5mg of Hg?
5 mg here 5 mg there. It all adds up...
And when one gets done paying for the Obama Lights. they NEVER pay for themselves. These things do not last nearly long enough to realize the savings in KWH's

The Obama admin had no right banning the incandescent light bulb.
Obama banned nothing, it was Bush who signed the bill. And Incandescent bulbs are not banned, they are only required to be more efficient.

That moment when the people who don't worry about the environment start to without factual information :eek-52:

Confusing but entertaining.

Seems to me Obama should just support everything bad for the environment and stupids will save the planet. Problem solved. :dunno:
That straw man argument does not rise to the level of idiotic.

Obama was NOT president in 2007.

Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection, and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007.
Title III: Energy Savings Through Improved Standards for Appliance and Lighting[edit]

Incandescent light bulbs were slated to be phased out in the U.S. beginning January 2012.

S.1419 - 110th Congress 2007-2008 Renewable Fuels Consumer Protection and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007 Congress.gov Library of Congress
This bill as introduced was identical to S.Amdt. 1502, a subsequent Senate substitute amendment to H.R. 6. Omnibus energy legislation was enacted in H.R.6, which became Public Law 110-140 on 12/19/2007.

Title III: Energy Savings Through Improved Standards for Appliance and Lighting[edit]

A. Appliance Energy Efficiency[edit]
  • New efficiency standards for external power supplies, in-home appliances, electric motors, residential boilers, and heating and air conditioning equipment.[13]
B. Lighting Energy Efficiency[edit]
  • Requires roughly 25 percent greater efficiency for light bulbs, phased in from 2012 through 2014. This effectively bans the manufacturing and importing of most current incandescent light bulbs, though by 2013 at least one company had introduced a redesigned incandescent bulb for which it claimed 50 percent greater efficiency than conventional incandescents.[18]
  • Various specialty bulbs, including appliance bulbs, "rough service" bulbs, colored lights, plant lights, and 3-way bulbs, are exempt from these requirements as well as light bulbs currently less than 40 watts or more than 150 watts. This exempts stage lighting and landscape lighting.
  • Requires roughly 200 percent greater efficiency for light bulbs, or similar energy savings, by 2020.

From YOUR link:

Bush had already banned the inefficient traditional light bulb in 2007, Obama only banned inefficient track lighting and inefficient recessed lighting in 2009.

"As part of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, traditional pear-shaped incandescents are already on track to become more efficient. Obama's effort extends those rules to conventional incandescent reflector lamps, the cone-shaped bulbs most commonly used in recessed lights and track lighting."

The new bulbs don't fit a lot of fixtures in my house.

Fuckin' 25 cent bulbs are now a dollar, and still burn out every time the power flickers.

Glad I am relegating this old house to a deer camp, and spending less time here.

Saving the incandescent light bulb (which just so happens to waste one hell of a lot of energy) is one of Mark Levin's mantras along with complaining about new toilets which provide less water to flush the toilet. Considering the sheer amount of rhetorical shit that Levin spews on any given show, I can see his concern.

However, it begs the following question: Why is it that conservatives no longer value conserving anything? It seems like they're hell-bent on wasting natural resources nowadays.
I don't know about conservatives but I still relish the idea of freedom. Including the freedom to choose.

Yep. And he did that to appease left wing environmental psychos just like he maintained oil drilling prohibitions to appease left wing environmental psychos just like he dragged his feet on sending sufficient amount of troops to quell the violence in Iraq to appease more left wing idiots.

BULLSHIT!

Bush was told he was sending an insufficient number of troops by the "Left" before he ever invaded!!!

Something on the order of several hundred thousand soldiers are probably, you know, a figure that would be required to stabilize Iraq after an invasion
- General Shinseki, before Congress, 2003

One general does not constitute the left. Especially when you consider the left referred to Petraeus as 'betray us' for sending more troops.
Many on the left, including and especially HR Haldeman Clinton, initially OK'd the invasion before attempting to seize the opportunity of an ostensible Vietnam redux when the aftermath went south.
Don't even try to rewrite recent history again.
