Liberty and Pizza...not Liberty OR Pizza!

aftermath of the anger among LGBT activists with Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) passage into law.

There is your culprit. That was a terrible law that is still having some unintended negative consequences for the state and governor. The O'Connors took the full brunt of the rage from Governor Pence's unexpected decision to sign it. They were definitely railroaded into being the face of the RFRA. I thought some of the media coverage was irresponsible and the behavior of certain LGBT supporters abhorrent. There is no room for that kind of slander and/or threats of violence in a society that takes such pride in its freedoms. I do think it was a mistake on the daughter's part to make the comment in the first place given the atmosphere. Luckily they ended up making lemonade out of the situation.

That avi is making me drool!!!!

Stop it at once!!!

And this: ""a governmental entity may not substantially burden a person's exercise of religion...[unless it] (1) is in furtherance of a compelling governmental interest; and (2) is the least restrictive means of furthering that compelling governmental interest."

What's the prob?
One example is the way it's being used by sex offenders/pedophiles. A suit was brought claiming their religious freedom is being infringed because they are not allowed to attend church. State law prevents said persons from attending churches that have schools. Also the Church of Cannabis was formed and claims smoking marijuana is part of their religious ceremonies. I happen to think that one is hilarious.
Throw in the fact the state legislature (Republican super majority) has been on a roll lately with broadly based laws with that sort of wording. In my opinion those laws prevent local communities from passing/upholding certain ordinances. The state seems to be on a power grab of sorts as of late.

...[recently] a man ordered two pizzas from Memories Pizza, without stating his reasons(as is quite normal when ordering pizza), and brought them back to serve at his same-sex wedding. He recorded the event on video and claimed that Memories “catered” his gay wedding—without knowing it.

"[O'Connor] has no problem with serving a person in his shop, whether or not that person identifies as gay."

That's not good enough for the fascists.

8. " Memories Pizza’s unproblematic [inadvertent] “catering” of the same-sex wedding in this case shows as much.

The small business owners involved in these matters are not asking for a “blank check” to do whatever they want. They are advancing sincere conscience claims against being forced to knowingly use their businesses for certain ends, and they are often happy to forgo the lost income and even refer the potential customers to another business where they can find what they need.

As long as we live in a democracy, people will have differing views on moral questions. The model of tolerance displayed by Kevin O’Connor is as good as any for how we can live together with those differences." How the Indiana Pizza Shop Responded After Being Tricked Into 'Catering' a Gay Wedding

And, following the title of the thread, allowing "differing views" in exactly what liberty is about.

Did you agree with the Dred Scott decision and the laws that it supported?

I can tell that you prefer not to think before posting, and be just as surprised as everyone else when you read it.

DS was a poor decision, it was also the law of the land and therefore to be obeyed until the law was changed. That's how it works here.

It only works that way among brain-dead zombies who follow the dictates of their masters.

Such folks respond to greetings such as 'Sieg Heil!'

Conservatives function in a very different manner: we make judgments based on knowledge, experience, and principles.
That is the reason many unjust decisions are overturned.
Say 'thank you.'

Gads, you're dumb.
Taney was a Jacksonian Democrat when he became Chief Justice.

Know who Jackson was?
The father of the modern Democrat Party.

The Democrats have always been the party of slavery, segregation, and second-class citizenship for black Americans.

What???

You didn't know all the racists were....and are....Democrats????

I can prove my contention....can you prove yours?

As the fascist's argument is that the pizza shop refused service to some gay individual, showing that that is false should effectively end their claims. Simple to prove that.

Of course, the real argument is whether every knee must be bent to the radical agendas of the Left.

The argument of the traditionalists is 'pick up your pizza, and go enjoy it as you wish....but stop asking me to give you (rhetorically) a big wet kiss to go with it.'

Seems reasonable.

6. " It is an undisputed fact that Memories Pizza served a man regardless of his sexual relationships.

Its owners did not deny him service. They didn’t “turn him away.” They didn’t quiz the man when he came in, asking whether he identified as a homosexual or what he would use the pizza for.

.... no one involved is interested in simply turning away customers based on how they identify sexually.

People are interested in exercising the teachings of their faith regarding marriage, and in continuing to live quiet and peaceful lives in harmony with their communities, as they have been doing for years.

They haven’t sought a fight; it has come to them." How the Indiana Pizza Shop Responded After Being Tricked Into 'Catering' a Gay Wedding

Well...except for Liberals....they insist that everyone march lock-step.....

Sad, huh?

You're getting repetitious now. You've lost the argument.

Jim Crow is dead. He's not coming back. If you love him that much, go join him on the other side.

Why would you bring up Jim Crow...

Don't realize that Jim Crow was Democrat Liberal big government in action?

In point of fact, Democrats stopped every anti-lynching bill the Republicans brought to the Senate.

Put your foot in your mouth again, huh?

Tell us why you believe that a business, open to the public, should be able to refuse service to black people,

on the grounds that the business owners have the religious belief that the races should be kept separate.

Just in case you didn't realize it....

Jefferson Davis was a Democrat U.S. Senator and also became the pro-slavery provisional President of the Confederate States of America, who led the southern state Democrats shameful fight to keep slavery alive.

Robert E. Lee was a Democrat and General of the Confederate Army, who led many men to their deaths in the name of keeping slavery alive. Even after losing the war, Robert E. Lee opposed the Republican proposals to give freed slaves the right to vote.

John Wilkes Booth was a Democrat who strongly opposed the abolition of slavery in the United States, and who assassinated President Lincoln as retribution for freeing the slaves.

Jim Crow laws were enacted by Democrats to segregate public schools, public places, and public transportation, and the segregation of restrooms, restaurants, and drinking fountains for whites and blacks.

Yes I pointed out that Robert E. Lee, one of the men of American history most admired by conservatives,

was a Democrat.

You conceded he was, and since you equate being a Democrat with being a liberal,

you are claiming that Lee was a liberal.

So do you really think that one of American conservatives' greatest heroes was actually a Liberal?

Egg on their face, eh?
