Souce: LaVeyan Satanism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LaVeyan Satanism was founded in 1966 by Anton LaVey. Its teachings are based on individualism, self-indulgence, and "eye for an eye" morality, drawing influences from the rituals and ceremonies of occultist Aleister Crowley, and the philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche and Ayn Rand. Employing Crowley's terminology, its adherents define Satanism as a "Left-Hand Path" religion and philosophy, rejecting traditional "Right-Hand Path" religions such as Christianity and Wicca for their perceived denial of life and, as in Christianity, emphasis on guilt and abstinence. Unlike Theistic Satanism, LaVeyan Satanism does not involve worship of any deity, but rather uses "Satan" as a symbol of carnality and earthly values, of man's inherent nature.[1]

Anton LaVey established Satanism's first and largest religion-supporting organization, the Church of Satan, in 1966, and codified Satanic beliefs and practices in The Satanic Bible in 1969. According to the Church of Satan, there are many Satanists around the world, including both members and non-members. It rejects the legitimacy of any other organizations of Satanists, dubbing them reverse-Christians and pseudo-Satanists. Although exact numbers have never been released, it has been estimated by the church that the number of adherents is in the tens of thousands.[2]

In The Satanic Bible, Anton LaVey describes Satan as a motivating and balancing dark force in nature. Satan is also described as being the "Black Flame", representing a person's own inner personality and desires. Satan is seen as synonymous with the nature and even, metaphorically, with certain conceptions of a supreme deity or God.

In his most important essay, "Satanism: The Feared Religion", the Church of Satan's current leader Peter H. Gilmore states:

“Satanists do not believe in the supernatural, in neither God nor the Devil. To the Satanist, he is his own God. Satan is a symbol of Man living as his prideful, carnal nature dictates. The reality behind Satan is simply the dark evolutionary force of entropy that permeates all of nature and provides the drive for survival and propagation inherent in all living things. Satan is not a conscious entity to be worshipped, rather a reservoir of power inside each human to be tapped at will. Thus any concept of sacrifice is rejected as a Christian aberration—in Satanism there’s no deity to which one can sacrifice."[11]

The Nine Satanic Statements
Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence
Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams
Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit
Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates
Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek
Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires
Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all.
Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification
Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years[16]

The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth
Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
When in another’s home, show them respect or else do not go there.
If a guest in your home annoys you, treat them cruelly and without mercy.
Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
Do not take that which does not belong to you, unless it is a burden to the other person and they cry out to be relieved.
Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
Do not harm young children.
Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask them to stop. If they do not stop, destroy them. [17]

The Nine Satanic "Sins"
Stupidity — The top of the list for Satanic Sins. The Cardinal Sin of Satanism. It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity. It depends on people going along with whatever they are told. The media promotes a cultivated stupidity as a posture that is not only acceptable but laudable. Satanists must learn to see through the tricks and cannot afford to be stupid.
Pretence — Empty posturing can be most irritating and isn’t applying the cardinal rules of Lesser Magic. This is on equal footing with stupidity for what keeps the money in circulation these days. Everyone’s made to feel like a big shot, whether they can come up with the goods or not.
Solipsism — Projecting your reactions, responses, and sensibilities onto someone who is probably far less attuned than you are can be very dangerous for Satanists. It is the mistake of expecting people to give you the same consideration, courtesy and respect that you naturally give them. They won’t. Instead, Satanists must strive to apply the dictum of “Do unto others as they do unto you.” It’s work for most of us, and requires constant vigilance, lest you slip into a comfortable illusion of everyone being like you. As it has been said, certain utopias would be ideal in a nation of philosophers, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, from a Machiavellian standpoint) we are far from that point.
Self-deceit — It’s in the “Nine Satanic Statements”, but deserves to be repeated here. It is another cardinal sin. We must not pay homage to any of the sacred cows presented to us, including the roles we are expected to play ourselves. The only time self-deceit should be entered into is when it’s fun, and with awareness. But then, it’s not self-deceit!
Herd Conformity — That’s obvious from a Satanic stance. It’s all right to conform to a person’s wishes, if it ultimately benefits you. But only fools follow along with the herd, letting an impersonal entity dictate to you. The key is to choose a master wisely, instead of being enslaved by the whims of the many.
Lack of perspective — Again, this one can lead to a lot of pain for a Satanist. You must never lose sight of who and what you are, and what a threat you can be, by your very existence. We are making history right now, every day. Always keep the wider historical and social picture in mind. That is an important key to both Lesser and Greater Magic. See the patterns and fit things together as you want the pieces to fall into place. Do not be swayed by herd constraints: Know that you are working on another level entirely from the rest of the world.
Forgetfulness of Past Orthodoxies — Be aware that this is one of the keys to brainwashing people into accepting something new and different, when in reality it’s something that was once widely accepted but is now presented in a new package. We are expected to rave about the genius of the creator and forget the original. This makes for a disposable society.
Counterproductive Pride — That first word is important. Pride is great up to the point you begin to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The rule of Satanism is: If it works for you, great. When it stops working for you, when you’ve painted yourself into a corner and the only way out is to say, "I’m sorry, I made a mistake, I wish we could compromise somehow," then do it.
Lack of Aesthetics — This is the physical application of the Balance Factor. Aesthetics is important in Lesser Magic and should be cultivated. It is obvious that no one can collect any money off classical standards of beauty and form most of the time, so they are discouraged in a consumer society; but an eye for beauty, for balance, is an essential Satanic tool and must be applied for greatest magical effectiveness. It’s not what’s supposed to be pleasing: It’s what is. Aesthetics is a personal thing, reflective of one’s own nature, but there are universally pleasing and harmonious configurations that should not be denied.[18]

-----

I discovered The Satanic Bible as a youth & read it in one sitting. After reading, it was then that I realized, I was a born Satanist. I had been living by this code that LaVey set forth in 1966 ever since I was able to walk. I always embraced my carnal desires & fleshly pursuits, more so as I grew into an adult. I had many right-wing views & loved the macabre & all things taboo/unconventional. Living my life by the silver rule seemed much more logical to me. Which is: Do unto others as they do unto you. I've always believe in indulgence, without compulsion. I've always been an advocate of self-preservation too & within LaVeyan Satanism, it's noted as: The Higest Law!

It's not a religion/philosophy for everyone. There's no proselytizing involved, whatsoever. The literature is out there for the taking. If you read it, see it as a mirror, then you realize you're a Satanist. However, I personally don't believe someone can convert to this specific religion, or grow to become a Satanist. It's something that's either in you, or it's not. If you wish to get the most out of life, you wish to indulge, within the boundaries of the law & not engage in compulsion/addiction, you see yourself as nothing more than an animal, you embrace your natural instincts, you seek vengance to those who have harmed you, you feel that turning the other cheek is for the weak & you love the aesthetics of the macabre, then maybe this is the religion/philosophy for you. As Satanists, we also believe in a justice system, an: eye-for-an-eye mentality & law enforcement. We feel as a society, we must have these things set into place in order to get the most out of life & to protect those who can't protect themselves.

The organization is: Anti-Drug, Pro-Country/Military/Law Enforcement, Pro-Individualism, Pro-Egosim (to a fault) & Responsibility to the responsible. Things in which the organization don't condone are: Illegal Activities, Those Under the Age of 18 Joining & Herd Mentality. I myself am not a card carrying member because I don't feel a need to join. I apply Satanism to my every day existence/life & I then in return affect life & my earthly existence! We are all the centers of our own universe & only we decide how our lives will be lived out. No spiritual pipe dreams! The here & now is all that we have & I for one wish to get the most out of it that I can.

no. i mean once you go satanist you dont go back....you remain a satanist...

apparently the board is assuming you are a troll. i dont think so.

i believe in evil but not satan.

i do not understand why you would be on a message board when your rules say...dont give your opinion etc....a conflict it would seem to me...

but again that is simply my opinion....

the rules etc...simply are totally hedonism....you are allowed all your wants....all id so to speak.

the exception is the treatment of small children and animals....perhaps these are taboos that are known to all? i am not sure.

I personally know some people who are satanists. They are also high end celebrities. If you critisize satanism... And you are a christian... Then you are f**king STUPID!
Satanism is no different then Athiesm with a set standard of life rules. They do not even HURT animals for f**k's sake. They also believe that human is an animal... That means they don't harm HUMANS EITHER!
I am for anybody that wants to become a satanist. If you look at the actual religion... NOT DEVIL WORSHIPPING... SATANISTS... you will see that they are more real then the wack job Jews and Christians.

So basically they're Libertarians only without that stick up their ass Puritanical streak that most self-idenifying American Libertarians seem to have?

A troll? That's pretty laughable really. I opted to write a pretty extensive introduction about myself. I've taken the time to write out thorough topics in order to engage in stimulating conversation. I'm not really a fan of one/two liner threads myself. I feel if you're going to take the time to create an entire thread, one should also take the time needed to put forth the information that's needed too, to make the topic the best it can be.

I've been around message boards/forums for years now & I've seen my fair share of trolls. They typically don't take the time to write well thought out topics/replies. Either way, they're entitled to their opinions too I suppose. Thus far I've actually enjoyed this forum quite a bit. As far as my opinion is concerned...

The rule states: Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked. There is some gray area within these rules & they're not just black & white. There's a forum entitled: Religion and Ethics, therefore my opinion has already been asked, for that's what a message board/forum is for. Those who don't wish to partake in the discussion at hand don't have to, it's free will. I just felt since most other mainstream religions had been discussed, I should also bring up Satanism for those who might have questions or wish to know more & discuss. Nothing more, nothing less.

If your indulgence relates to compulsion or an illegal act, the organization does not condone such behavior(s).

Are you sure that you have not taken Hedonism, draped it in "Anti-Christian images", and now trying to pass it off as a religion??

since I'm agnostic the belief of Satan is as usless to me as the belief in God. I might as well set myself up as king shit.

Libertarianism is a political philosophy, Satanism is a moral philosophy. So no, not the same at all.

I don't understand the references to magic and the denial of the supernatural. Aren't these ideas in opposition?
