AMES, Iowa —
Iowa State University is planning to close its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office this year.

Last November, the board of Regents issued 10 DEI directives to cut back spending throughout the state's three public universities. In response to that, Iowa State said it will be closing its DEI office in July.

The college is also removing five positions due to the directives, two of which are filled right now.

The change comes in response to a Iowa Board of Regents directive last year to abolish all “diversity, equity, and inclusion” initiatives at public universities that are not required for compliance with state law.

For anyone with any knowledge of the history of DEI, it all started with a campaign to eliminate discrimination against Blacks (then expanded to other "oppressed" groups) in schools. At the time (early 60's), the only discrimination against Blacks was at southern colleges, and within a decade or so, that overt discrimination was largely gone, with athletic scholarships to Black athletes leading the way. Even the Good Old Boys would tolerate Negroes in the schools if that meant having a winning football team.

But it has been a couple generations since Blacks were discriminated against in schools. For the past several decades, Blacks have been admitted to schools with inferior credentials to those required of "whites" and it is not even something that is questioned anymore.

The implicit promise of "Affirmative Action" when it was illicitly invented by the U.S. Supreme Court was that after a short time it would no longer be necessary. The figurative children of those who came in through AA initiatives would not need lower standards, and "we" could therefore stop the practice. But this has proven not to be the case. Far from not needing a "leg up," current Black generations DEMAND lower standards as though they are a birth right.

The end of DEI should bring about the end of discrimination, HOWEVER, those of us who have seen this play out before know that the colleges will not stop discriminating in favor of "oppressed" minorities; they will simply continue the practice under another name. The new name is still under wraps, but the practice will never end.
