It's Long Past Time To Arrest The Homeless

You think you are being smarmy and sarcastic. Sometimes you do come up with something viable. What we are doing isn't working.

At one time we did have institutions where those who are unable to care for themselves could be taken. Those were closed because of some misguided understanding of civil rights. It's time to bring them back.

We need camps to place people who refuse or are unable to clean themselves up and be productive members of society.

As long as the process involves adjudication by the legal system, it would work.

It is a PUBLIC HEALTH Crisis as it is now. It has festered like cancer since the 80s' especially in big cities in CA.

Trump is right. Round them up. Net them if you have to. Drag them to tent cities in the desert policed by Military guard.
If you act up in there....and you don't get clean. Then you get 5 yrs in Folsom. That will clean it up.
Sandwiches, kool-aid, fruit, vegetables, coffee. They gradually move to work in serving and clean up.....then to preparation work.
They learn to clean up their tents daily and themselves. If you fight in the mens barracks......the troublemakers are going to Prison. Not those only defending.
Dental and Health care is a must but is very costly? not sure about this?

When you "Graduate" then you get a FEMA trailer near jobs and you go to work (those capable). call it "a good start".
Womens' Childrens' barracks far far removed from the dirty men.

Locking them up...forcing them into debtor's prisons, and mental hospitals is the ultimate in being dependents of the state.
Offering them help to not be homeless, and to get treatment is the steps to getting off dependence.

Demafascist want to keep them homeless, and sick...not get them help to improve their lives

Reagan repealed almost all of the funding that the 1980 Mental Health Systems Act provided to states
I think you are referring to the 1981 Ombibus bill passed by a Dem Congress. The Bill itself, did nothing of note....other then lay out guidelines for States.

The Federal Govt has, even before 1980 and still continues to be the major funding of mental health treatment....through medicare, medicaid CHIP and block grants...

  • Federal Role in Funding Services. The federal government is a major funding stream for mental health services. In addition to funding mental health services that fall under Medicare and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), it matches state Medicaid and CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) spending from between 50 to 70 percent, depending on the state. While these programs do not focus exclusively on mental health, Medicaid is the single largest funder of mental health services in the country, which makes this support especially valuable. The federal government also provides Mental Health Block Grants (MHBG) that support states in building out their community mental health services. MHA supports the continued role of the federal government in funding services and advocates for expanded and sustained funding for mental health services.

"We need camps."

With a big sign that says "Work sets you free", right?

I knew that would be the knee jerk reaction.

Again, how is just spending Billions of dollars on the problem working out so far?

Don't believe a sign is necessary, but a place where people can get treatment, education, etc to turn into productive people....basically the opposite of what the Demafascist like Gavin has done in Cali...

Put them in tent cities near the fields. If we need 1million illegals to pick freakin' tomatoes?
Why can't these drug bums clean up and work for food? If you don't pick and act up....SinghSingh time for you.

Put others near slaughter houses. get the picture?
The educated-degreed ones can work their way back into society.

People are not widgets.....that seems to be your problem. Thinking they are. There are more reasons for being homeless than there are people.

And the current "solution" basically only funds massive bureaucracies that don't have to produce any results.

The people who are mentally ill or drug addicts are the ones the system isn't doing anything but subsidizing them, and are the biggest problem makers.

Put them in front of a judge, and send them somewhere to be treated. then somewhere to be checked out to see if the treatment worked, and then sent back out to some form of halfway house.

Repeat offenders get recycled until they get it, or they die of their addictions.

Getting them treatment is a noble aspiration but unnecessary. They don't want to be treated. Many drug users have already had treatment. They have gotten clean dozens of times. You know what? They don't like it. They don't accept your version of improving their lives. And for that matter how dare you impose your version of improvement on them. Neither can the mentally ill be helped outside of a lock down residential setting. They just refuse to take the medication. When their lives are improved, they don't need it any more. They are cured.

Flood the camps with seized fentanyl. Take the survivors into custody.

Its' hard not to live in a tent near SF. They give out $650 cash assistance every month. This on top of shelter food, clothing, needles and other goodies available. Why try to work?
