Not all of them. But the OP wasn't talking about "radical Islam," and in fact explicitly stated the claim that the problem isn't radical Islam but ALL of Islam. My argument here is that it's the relative backwardness of Muslim countries that creates the retrograde teachings in much of Islam and not the religion itself. Christianity used to be just as bad when Christian countries were as primitive, and still is where Christian countries still ARE as primitive, e.g. sub-Saharan Africa.

Muslims in America that I've known personally are not like that. But that's because they're Americans. Christians in America aren't like Ugandans, either (well, except for the religious right, but they're weird).

The biggest problem in Muslim countries is the lack of education, Radical Islam easily exploits the people with the least education because they are the most vulnerable.

In this US of A, you will find the most radicalized muslims on any college campus. It became so bad of a problem that the University in Irvine completely banned all muslim student groups for a year hoping they could learn their lesson.

Several years ago there was a major plot to bomb the subways in London. Each and every plotter was a doctor, nurse or medical professional. The terrorist network was throughout the British hospital system with the majority of plotters born British of Pakistani origin.

No you have a point, the radical Islamists in the West are usually well educated or converts to the Islamic faith, they usually gain a high position because of their education and familiarity with the West, the regular grunts on the ground fighting US Troops in Afghanistan however are illiterate goat herders who fuck sheep.

The Church leaders who burned heretics at the stake were highly educated, too. It's not the lack of education on an individual level, but the primitive character of their society. The most educated members of a society are sometimes those who can act upon their barbaric value systems in the most skillful, best-informed manner. As people of your persuasion have been lamenting ever since the 1960s and 1970s, the moral values of a society are a product of its material circumstances. All majority-Muslim nations today are primitive compared to some, but not all, of the nations that are majority Christian. Those nations that are majority Christian and AREN'T more advanced than the Muslim world are just as barbaric, violent, and misogynistic.

In the Middle Ages, when the Muslim world was more advanced than Christian Europe, it was also more humane; for example, treatment of non-Muslims in Muslim countries then was far more lenient and accepting than treatment of non-Christians in Christendom. Today, it's the other way around. It has nothing to do with the religions themselves.

She has a point now. The point is that this same idea exists in Christianity. It was once very popular with Christians, too. Until the mid to late 20th century, beating of wives was culturally acceptable in this country as long as it was not too excessive (i.e., did not result in serious injury).

The book you're talking about became a best-seller in Muslim countries because those countries are backwards, NOT because they are Muslim. The same ideas were popular in Christian countries when THEY were backward. In Christian countries that are STILL backward, they still are.
