If The Senate shuts this down....

THOUGHTS FROM AN INDEPENDENT

It's crystal clear that Senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham are eager to sweep this Senate impeachment trial under the rug, shut it down, and allow no new evidence or witnesses. But what happens if they try to do that? Will other Republican Senators march in lockstep, and try to deal with the coming election fallout in November? Will they break ranks and join the Democrats in insisting documents and witnesses being suppressed by President Trump be revealed? Recent polling shows:

71% of Democrats, 56% of Independents and 40% of Republicans say Senate should call additional witnesses to testify.

51% say Senate should remove Trump from office.

Either way, Senate Republicans are in a tough spot. Do they cave in to public opinion and hold a fair trial? or do they cave in to Donald Trump and risk being removed from office in November?

JMHO - Too close to call right now.

We don't care. Just end this fiasco.

For what? They will just start another one. And they will continue to hound Trump until his last day in office. Hopefully, they lose the House and we pickup more seats in the Senate. That would shut them up for Trump's second term.
Trump's second term is all gravy. He should just give it back totally. Nothing to lose. Many of these men and women have very little concern about the citizens. Its more about the party and agendas. And we see it in all the colors.

I'm sure that will take place if we also dominate the House as well. Trump winning is a shoe-in. That's what Democrats fear the most. So our real focus should be on the House. Piglosi will not only be the first female SOH, but one that lost her position twice in her career.

No offense Ray, but I think the real focus should be on the Senate, so they can keep on filling those federal judge positions and also the president's cabinet. Not to mention another Supreme Court replacement or 2. Maybe 3?

Ironic, since you are posting in a thread started on the premise of attacking the process.
I took the OP to be speculation on the open question of how many republican senators will just go along with trying to sweep it all under the rug in spite of the damage it will do to the republican party. The political calculations being done by republicans right now must be a cause of great torment to them. They earned this mess by telling the president he had their unconditional support no matter what.
Not like Dems haven't been squirming since Trump won.
This whole affair is in hopes that they can either force Trump out or create enough dislike to make their candidate look better.

To tell the truth I hope that Trump wins a second term, the house and senate go to the Republicans with enough of a lean that no matter what is proposed the Dems don't have enough to shut it down.

Then just for giggles I would love the house to propose to exhonerarte his impeachment just I could watch Pelosi have a stroke.
We already know republicans want a permanent one-party state and an absolute plutocratic ruler.

That's the Democrats you're speaking of. Why do you think they became the anti-white party? They are doing it because once the white majority is gone, they can have a single-party government forever. Just look how other groups vote.
I don't see anything about white bread run of the mill rural dumbasses that is worth preserving if it means we have to forfeit fair elections and government accountability.

Neither does the rest of your ilk. That's why they became the anti-white party.

Totally agree. At this point, I think Americans are so sick of these leftist antics they want them all gone. Hopefully I'm correct. BuzzBerg can't hold on another five years. She's barely making it now.

So far no convincing post has been presented by the supporters of trump. I suppose the theory of their defense is that everyone but they and trump are liars. The irony which they will never admit, and likely can't even comprehend, is that lying to mislead the public is daily ritual coming from the White House and the words of The President at rallies, pressers and in tweets.

You cannot prove a negative. You also cannot prove someone innocent. Hence, that is our system of justice.

It used to be our system of justice, it changed when the GOP members of Congress continued to attack HRC, and disappeared when trump led his mob in the chant, "lock her up".

BTW, your comment does not jib with my post, your dishonesty is noted once again. I can provide evidence which is probative and no credible rebuttal can attest that trump is not a consummate liar.

Probative? You have NOTHING except hearsay.

President Johnson said something to the effect that if you tell the dumbest least educated white shithead that he is better than the best educated, hardest working black man then he will let you pick his pocket forever. That's the essence of your "pro-white" party.

It seems to me that it is absolutely proper to hear both sides of the case for impeachment, which the House did not do. And then allow questions to be asked and answered for a period of time. After that, it is entirely proper for the Senate to vote on whether they've heard enough. More Witnesses, yes or no. If so, who? If not, vote for acquittal. Nothing wrong with that IMHO.

dems may not call witnesses ! they know that if they do republicans will call witness [the Bidens] to testify . dems do not want that ! dems will present their case then The presidents defense will present their case the senate will vote not to remove the president and then the dems will get to say it was a cover up and run on it ! its all democratic bull ! its just dirty politics by the left ! and to their dismay they will only serve to strengthen Trump again ! dims never learn ....thats why they are who they are and why they believe what they believe !

If what I say actually happens, and the Democrat party takes total control of the country indefinitely, that will start the end of the great experiment. It will quickly go to Socialist, and eventually Communist. It's why they have to be stopped.

The Communists said many years ago they would take over this country; but not with one bullet fired. They will takeover peacefully from within.

At the moment, the American public is actually a little more sick of the tactics and antics of the right and especially this President, according to polling. Senate is walking tightrope, having to care about visible image or fairness or lack there of, being burned into the minds of the electorate. The image presented may very last through the election. There is the real possibility, they will win the battle, and at the same time assure the losing of the war and possibly the electability party itself.

I like to believe that most Americans agree that this should at least look like justice has been served. The form of the trial leaves senators plenty of time to examine their life choices that led to this sorry situation where conservative lawyers will be arguing that abuse of power and obstruction are not impeachable offenses. It's anyone's guess if it will goad any of them to honor their oaths.
You mean like the partisan hit job by the House?
Sucks for Trump all he has in defense is to attack the process like some obviously guilty Mob boss. He is counting entirely on every republican putting him before the party and the country,
ok ! if thats what you want to believe and if thats what triggers you !
bwaaa haaa haaaaa haaaaa ! weve already won in 2020 sooooooo PENCE 2024 !

The problem with that is they brought no impeachable articles to the Senate. It should be thrown out on that basis alone. If it's proper to hear both sides, then only the Republican witnesses should be called to testify. The Democrats had all their witnesses they wanted during their inquiry, and we heard from every one of them.

We already know republicans want a permanent one-party state and an absolute plutocratic ruler.

And Democrats do not? Democrats tried to undo the 2016 election before President Donald Trump even took office and were even talking about impeachment before he took office.

Democrats may turn the country over to Republicans for decades due to default. The schism in the Democrat Party is huge. The far-left wing with Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, and the others are light-years away from the mainstream Democrat. So far, in fact, that today JFK would be a Republican!

Sanders supporters are already saying that if he is "cheated" out of the nomination again, they're just going to stay home.

/—-/ After a three year witch hunt, they are counting on new evidence and witnesses? Why did Piglosi rush the vote if they weren’t ready?

You can keep that dream if you like. Nobody is pissed at the Republicans because they are not playing games. Once they vote to acquit, they won't be smiling and passing out $2,000 pens as souvenirs. They won't be putting on a stage show like marching in lockstep like little Nazi's.

lol...this is just another hoax in a long line of hoax'...
there will be no blow back for the GOP, no repercussions, the impeachment proceedings were an all liberal show of incompetence, they're problem was they did not look any different from who they really are...
The gop senate will lhave no such worries, mitch could declare case closed and hold up the middle finger and nothing will make them look like the congressional impeachment hoax, or the mueller hoax, or any of the other hoax' past, present or future.

And let us not forget that there were a lot of Republicans that just stayed home last presidential election because they were unhappy with Trump's nomination. Now that the scorecard is in, they won't miss the next one. Especially those who were robbed of their valuable income tax refund that they no longer have to pay thanks to Trump.

this is a bogus impeachment
there is nothing to sweep under the rug
the Dems are just doing this for political propaganda
they have now made impeachment meaningless
