If The Senate shuts this down....

THOUGHTS FROM AN INDEPENDENT

It's crystal clear that Senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham are eager to sweep this Senate impeachment trial under the rug, shut it down, and allow no new evidence or witnesses. But what happens if they try to do that? Will other Republican Senators march in lockstep, and try to deal with the coming election fallout in November? Will they break ranks and join the Democrats in insisting documents and witnesses being suppressed by President Trump be revealed? Recent polling shows:

71% of Democrats, 56% of Independents and 40% of Republicans say Senate should call additional witnesses to testify.

51% say Senate should remove Trump from office.

Either way, Senate Republicans are in a tough spot. Do they cave in to public opinion and hold a fair trial? or do they cave in to Donald Trump and risk being removed from office in November?

JMHO - Too close to call right now.

Ya gotta ask yer self. Why didn’t the House do it’s fucking job?

The D's have done their job, they had two hearings and presented witnesses and documents necessary and sufficient to hold the Defendant, Donald J. Trump, to answer. They presented all the evidence necessary to impeach The President.

The R's failed to provide any evidence probative to the issues subsequently sent to the Senate. Not one member of the R Caucus presented any witnesses to provide exculpatory evidence, and their cry that they could not bring forth witnesses or documents which were of benefit to the Defendant, those closest to him in the White House, refused the subpoena under the direction of The President.

Time will tell if the evidence presented is so incriminating that even Sen. Graham will fold and vote to convict the Defendant; consider, Senators are Pols and most pols sole concern is what will the voters do, if they don't vote how the majority of their constituents believe.

Most Americans want justice to prevail, notwithstanding the, "lock her up" set.
There is no evidence and no witnesses of any crimes committed.

You must be fucking joking.

Unfortunately republicans will march lock step with trump and mcconnell.

The last thing republicans want is for the whole truth to be shown to the American public.

This trial will be nothing but a joke. It will further divide our nation and do a lot of harm.

I sure hope that we have an honest and fair election in November. If we do, the republicans will not have much of a chance for reelection. Which is one of the reasons why mcconnell and the rest of the republicans are doing all they can to prevent the whole truth from being shown to the American public.

Republicans will not have a chance? Tell us again which of these stellar Democrat candidates can beat Trump?

The Gaffe machine, the socialist/communist, Fauxcohontas, or Butt plug? Which one has the cajones to take on Trump? I would say that is a bad day at the plate when get an 0 for 4.

Sucks for Trump all he has in defense is to attack the process like some obviously guilty Mob boss. He is counting entirely on every republican putting him before the party and the country,
Ironic, since you are posting in a thread started on the premise of attacking the process.
I took the OP to be speculation on the open question of how many republican senators will just go along with trying to sweep it all under the rug in spite of the damage it will do to the republican party. The political calculations being done by republicans right now must be a cause of great torment to them. They earned this mess by telling the president he had their unconditional support no matter what.
Not like Dems haven't been squirming since Trump won.
This whole affair is in hopes that they can either force Trump out or create enough dislike to make their candidate look better.

To tell the truth I hope that Trump wins a second term, the house and senate go to the Republicans with enough of a lean that no matter what is proposed the Dems don't have enough to shut it down.

Then just for giggles I would love the house to propose to exhonerarte his impeachment just I could watch Pelosi have a stroke.

We already know republicans want a permanent one-party state and an absolute plutocratic ruler.

I fully agree.
Welcome to the idiot's club.

Roflol. Yeah sure the checks in the mail also right?
The republicans want power just like the democrats do. The diffrence is
The republicans don't want to give people everything just because they breath, they expect people to at least make an attempt to do something with their life and help the country.
Don't fool yourself that Dems don't want a third world country they have proven it in cities that they control, the only thing that's missing is they have not had enough votes to pull it off for the country.
Dems would rather have a terrorist as a savior then a republican in congress.
Hey don't blame me that the president's lawyers are about to argue that abuse of power and obstruction are not impeachable offenses. That's on you Trumpbots.
They aren't offenses at all.

How is calling witnesses fair? The House did not call these people, so why should the Senate? You numbers are indicative of the poor education these people received. Most of them probably don't vote.
They did call these people who refused to testify. Probably because Trump is guilty as sin.

The only one we know for sure is guilty as sin is Joe Biden because he admitted to his crime on videotape in front of the CFR.

Great. Where’s the charges?

So far no convincing post has been presented by the supporters of trump. I suppose the theory of their defense is that everyone but they and trump are liars. The irony which they will never admit, and likely can't even comprehend, is that lying to mislead the public is daily ritual coming from the White House and the words of The President at rallies, pressers and in tweets.

You cannot prove a negative. You also cannot prove someone innocent. Hence, that is our system of justice.

My friend, you paint it how ever you wish, with any poll of your choosing.

We know your screwed! You know your screwed! And fancy Nancy knows your screwed!

Now spin all you want to,lol. Within 3 months, we will be looking for you under your bed, and that is all that matters.

By the time your side is done, you wil have screwed yourselves so badly, dog catcher might be out of your sides reach!

The one thing I regret about a message board is------------> we don't know who you are, or where you live. If we did, we would be outside your house, appt, or tent, lambasting all of you for your incompetence!

Again, it begs the question, dems said they had a rock solid case, undisputed. They went forward with articles of impeachment based on this rock solid evidence.

Now, they are scurrying for more witnesses. Why is that? It's possible that this shows the dems case may not have been rock solid at all, and they rushed the articles for political reasons. They used openly vague reasons for the impeachment articles, with the hope that they would find a more solid reason later.

There are those who say "we need all the evidence so we can see all that trump has done wrong, and new witnesses will show those new issues". So, if you have a rock solid, undisputed case, then what does new evidence matter? You say you have all the evidence you need. The idea here is to remove trump from office, right? Or is it to damage him far into the future?

Is it not possible that dems are not going to be satisfied with just removing trump, they hate him so much, they want to ruin the man?

This is not about justice, this is about revenge.

The reason they said that is to have the sheep echo their lies, which they always do. Because they depend on their puppet masters to tell them what to think, and not why they should be thinking it, they just spread the lies like manure.

There is no law against quid pro quo's. Other Presidents have used them, including VP Joe Biden.
It had nothing to do with attacking a rival. Nobody knows who Trump's rival will be.
Keeping documents away from the House is not impeachable. DumBama did it while he was President.
Nobody heard Trump say he wanted a quid pro quo, including Zelensky in that phone call.

That's the Democrats you're speaking of. Why do you think they became the anti-white party? They are doing it because once the white majority is gone, they can have a single-party government forever. Just look how other groups vote.

The 'mob' has no say in this matter.

Next election, please.

I like to believe that most Americans agree that this should at least look like justice has been served. The form of the trial leaves senators plenty of time to examine their life choices that led to this sorry situation where conservative lawyers will be arguing that abuse of power and obstruction are not impeachable offenses. It's anyone's guess if it will goad any of them to honor their oaths.

Actually, what is taking place is that it's the Democrats who are going to suffer next election. People are working, making more money, getting a higher tax return, and have the availability to find another job if they are not happy with their current one.

Mind-Blowing! 58% Of Attendees at Trump's Wisconsin Rally Were NOT Republicans, Up from 43% in Ohio

Meh.

If the Senate does not impeach him (he has not been yet) then the Democrats will initiate actions against the senators

Democrats want the glaring deficiencies in the Houses approach to be made the way they want by the Senate and that’s not the Senates function
Once again, liberals wanting their work done for them by someone else.
