Then why do they need a law forcing folks to buy it?
Obamacare is in reality a massive wealth-redistribution scheme, which uses "health care" as its excuse.
It charges very high premiums to everybody, and then "gives" subsidies (taxpayer money) to people who have less, leaving everyone else to pay heavily, including those who don't need or want a massive insurance policy.
Some people give more than they receive, others receive more than they get. You have to have laws forcing those who give more then they receive, to keep paying anyway, or they will do the sensible thing and quit.
And those who want more economical policies, will get them elsewhere, unless there are also laws that choke off the availability of the more economical policies... plus a loud chorus of sycophants shouting that the economical policies are "inferior"... without actually examining those policies, of course.
