That was exactly my point. At least this woman isn't buying shit. Fact is, we're paying for her either way, so since we have to pay either way, I'd be more pissed off if she were just buying crap, rather than nutritionally sound stuff.
I don't begrudge anyone having decent, healthy food. But when the people paying taxes are eating hamburger, it's a bit much to see the people on welfare buying top sirloin.
Public assistance shouldn't be posher than working for a living.
In CA, some bright lights are now trying to force little farmers markets and veggie & fruit stands to accept EBT payments for welfare recipients, so they can buy produce without having to fork out cash. The problem with this is that such devices cost $1,000 a piece. The result is going to be some smaller producers just opting out. The cost of this extra equipment wipes out their small profit margin.
How wonderful. Less opportunities to purchase produce because the state wants to force EBT payment systems on sole proprietors.
