Grocery store

Here's my take. She's going to get the hand out, whether you like it or not..

Would you be more, or less pissed off if she were buying complete shit, rather than fresh fruits/veggies and healthier cuts of meat?

The point is, that WIC covers her buying the veggies and fruit. That is some expensive eating these days. The steaks were T bones and filets. She could plan her meals better. Oh and they pay cash for their beer
And by the way, I would be happier if she got a job.

I guess, having seen the crap people can do with welfare, while I understand your frustration of having to pay for someone else, while you can barely afford to pay for yourself, I don't really see the reason for what sounds like severe anger..

A) You have no idea why she's on welfare to begin with, but the fact that she's buying actual, healthy food would cause me to consider the possibility this is actually a temporary thing, and she's not buying any differently than she would in any other scenario..

B) I've seen people sell food stamps to get cash for drugs.

C) I see people spending their entire welfare check playing bingo/slots at the local casino, while talking about who's "minding their kids", while telling their friend "Gimme a fitty ($50), and I'll git choo some food when we gits to da stoe'".

Sorry, but I'd rather see someone do what she's going, and buying actual food than see any more of the crap I've seen in the past. If I'm forced to foot the bill, at least it's something I'd spend money on...

Hmmmm, I wonder if she had kids to feed, and that's why she was buying fresh cuts of meat and fruits and veggies. I sure would want my child to eat healthy, even if I had to get some assistance for awhile from someone.

I don't know, I try not to judge on why some people may need help. Maybe her husband left her, and she only has a part time job, or can't find a job.

Maybe she is playing the government for a fool, but maybe she's not.

Isn't there a passage in the Bible, "Judge not least ye be judged?"

The whole point of my thread is not to judge this woman in particular, but to judge the culture of welfare. I do not know this woman's story, nor do many of you all know mine, and I do not know yours. I would bet that the steaks she purchased was for a man in her life. She had a baby in the cart and I highly doubt, that the baby had teeth to eat steak. But that is not the point. I was struck by the words she spoke and how she apparently had zero dignity, and she had given up on finding out who and what she could be.

I happen to be a very generous and giving person, but I also believe personal responsibility is what made our country great. I hate to see the human spirit crushed by a (government is my daddy), mentality

I am always disappointed in people and their judgement on myself and others, when we state the practical. It was apparent that this woman and many others has made welfare and other programs their way of life. That disturbs me, for many reasons. One reason would be that baby in the cart. What in the world is she going to learn from that culture? Give me something practical she will lean from that

The human spirit is being crushed. the spirit of innovation and generosity and all the other wonderful characteristics of our nation is disappearing because of that mentality.

Yeah that makes me angry

She might have a job. Much of our military personel qualify for "food Stamps" if married with children.

The amount one qualifies for depends on size of family and income. All do not qualify for the same amouint.

This thread and all threads like it bother me. You don't know what the woman with the ebt card has in her background, you don't know her challenges. The food stamp program is well funded..most people who HAVE food stamps DO work. The categorical eligibility limit is 185 percent of the federal poverty level.

Maybe it was a family member's birthday, and there's no money for presents. Maybe the family hasn't had a steak dinner in a long time. Maybe she got a job and has incentive food stamps for 5 months (people who get a job and no longer qualify for fs can continue to receive them for 5 months after they go over income as an incentive to do so).

Maybe she just left an abusive man and she's celebrating with her kids. Maybe her son just came home from Iraq. Maybe she's stocking up.

You don't know. Judge not lest you be judged, using the same yardstick. I imagine if someone popped into anyone's life at some random moment without knowing the context of that life, like as not the impression would not be wonderful. People who are poor often compensate for being treated like second class citizens. They constantly deal with people looking over their shoulders and criticizing them, they are treated different in the stores, at the hospital, on the street. Don't blame them for whatever it is in your life frustrates you.

I know what the op means. Lately I have noticed that I am the only one standing in line paying for my food. People in front & lanes on both sides are paying with those EBT cards.

Last week I followed two :eusa_snooty:very well dressed women, hair all done up & smelling like a bed of roses.:eusa_snooty: They had a cart load of the finest cuts of steak, corn on the cob, bake potatoes, veggies, Bushes baked beans, cheeses, crackers, dips & all sorts of party foods.:eusa_drool: They had a second cart of wine & beer. They were talking about this big party at their new place. :booze:The booze cart was paid for with cash. :eusa_naughty:CAN YOU BELIEVE THEY PAID WITH AN EBT CARD FOR THAT CART FULL OF STEAK & PARTY FOOD!:hellno: I followed these women out into the parking lot where they got into a BRAND NEW CADILLAC ESCALADE with BIG FANCY WHEELS. :hellno::drillsergeant: Un-fucking believable!!! :drillsergeant::hellno:

I remember my broke & starving college days well.:( I would by those cheap bags of navy beans & boil them in a pot of water to keep down the hunger pains.:( When I could afford it I would get some bacon to put in the beans for flavor.:eusa_boohoo: The best eats I got there was the day McDonald's put a coupon in the campus paper for a free McLean hamburger. I went around to the building entrances where they drop the news paper bundles & cut out 50 coupons. :eusa_angel:Man I thought I had died & gone to heaven.:eusa_angel: I brought extra home & stuffed in the fridge. I ate good for a month.:eusa_pray:

the card i swipe is a debit card...how can you tell the difference? i have never noticed anyone like this....but this is more evidence of how american's attitudes have changed....we should be fighting the government not each other....

I don't even pay attention to how someone in front of me is paying let alone what they buy.. I read the headlines on Enquirer and US.

I can sympathize with Pixie ... but most of the time I see people using EBT cards buying sodas, chips, prefab food, etc. rather than getting stuff that is really nutritional for themselves and their kids.

That was exactly my point. At least this woman isn't buying shit. Fact is, we're paying for her either way, so since we have to pay either way, I'd be more pissed off if she were just buying crap, rather than nutritionally sound stuff.

I was grocery shopping today, and having to watch and plan my meals carefully, because I have bills to pay and stuff like that. And in front of me there is one of these people who had steaks and all kinds of lovely foods, fresh veggies and fruits. She swiped her little card and then said that if she did not have enough WIC to pay for her fresh veggies and fruit that she would use her government debit card to pay for the rest. How thoughtful of her. :clap2:

It made me happy, NOT, cuz I work hard everyday to feed someone else well. Don't get me wrong. I want people to eat well, but not by taking it out of my mouth, thank you

Imgine the scenario : they come to the line with 70 dollars worth of pop corn and other junk food proclaiming the were going home to watch movies on the big screen they had just bought 16 movies at blockbuster for 100.00 $ and they are so excited , They pay with food stamp.
True story .

the grocery store is pleased. pixie couldnt have done that even with her wand. thats the point of welfare. far, far beyond homegirl and her steak. the country would not be as you see it w/o entitlements. the jobs you flaunt in front of welfare recipients are propped up by this shit. look at a country... any single one... that doesnt have entitlements and tell me im wrong. there is a cause/effect relationship which was thoroughly understood at the inception... the economy is stifled when only employed people can buy groceries/stereos...

what would you have happen with the unemployed.

please dont say, "derr, get a job" -- there is 10pts unemployment -- among people who want jobs. this number doesnt consider the habitually unemployed.

having pride in your work and your status as a worker, shouldnt be 'taken out of the mouth' of of all people welfare moms.

Higher quality food is the better buy in the long run.

Steak can be cheaper than cereal when you take its nutruitional value versus its cost into account.

That is the truth whether you pay with food stamps or with cash.

Maybe what you ought to do is not presume you know how other people should eat, eh?

Maybe the're actually shopping more wisely than you are.

Amazing. Just amazing.

Which part? :eusa_angel: The part where I have to put back food and she does not?

This is what pisses me off about people who complain about food stamps.

An entire thread dedicated to why you hate people on food stamps...

Typical Repub.

Criticism is not hate. Good grief. What is with this obsessional need to accuse everyone who disapproves of something of 'hate'.

Typical response from someone who is afraid to see all sides of an issue.

I hate the people on food stamp program? :eusa_eh: And where did I say that????

And why do you people skim over the parts about what negatives happen to those who make welfare their way of life.

Do you not see what that culture has done to our country? That is my point. If you cannot see that, then you are lost.

Some of you have no problem judging and hating on me though. Hypocrits

I think approximately 80% of the people missed the point of this thread *shaking my head*

I see that kind of thing all the time. Stop hating on food stamp recipients!

People must have videos and TV. It is a natural right or something.
And they can't pay for them with food stamps.
