I totally support this project. It's the kind of thing we should be doing on a national level. We're looking at least 4000 new jobs being created. I thought Republicans loved jobs being created? No?

http://www.cahighspeedrail.ca.gov/assets/0/152/159/0150b8aa-a61b-4aeb-9c18-6223d8fe429f.pdf

It is not in the interest of people who live in other states to wastefully fund something that will be used only in another state.

That's not a national service. It's a state service, and should be funded by the state the line will serve.

Some people think the nation should fund sex changes for children who are sorry they were born a girl or sorry that they were born a boy.

California needs to pay its own debts first and save back money for the project on their own nickel.

It's just not a national project.

It's playing favourites to a State that has screwed itself into financial ruin...now the other 49 (or 56 if you ask the messiah, Obama), states have to contribute to another money vortex.

NOT happening. BAD policy.

I concur.

Wow, 4,000 jobs for only the price of 68 Billion (that will prolly go well over 100 billion). Man Conservatwerp, you might be on to something.

68,000,000,000 divided by 4,000 jobs, divided by 10 years to build.... Only 1.7 Million dollars a job..... per year.

I think we have a runner up for the most stupid person on the boards, It’s TM VS Conservatwerp.

Teabaggers calling me stupid is a badge of honor, Fuckstain. It's sort of like someone who is really stupid calling me stupid.

Oh wait. That's exactly what that is.

That might even be fact, however I'm not part of the Tea Party and I'm calling you stupid. I fully understand that if you can lable me something I'm not that you feel it lets you off the hook for saying something stupid, but that's just not true. That's why you are closing in on the boards idiot, you need about 10,000k more posts to catch up with TM though.

Oh, we'll being called stupid by a Conservative is just about the same level of pride for me. So we're back to dicks and pussies and assholes.

Except that it would loose money and just become another money pit. If there was a profit to be made with high speed rail, a private customer would be building the system right now. In stead, you want to tax 300 million people to subsidize high speed transportation for the 10 or 12 people who would benefit from another government boondoggle.

Hmm. Sounds like a lot of unsubstantiated speculation. Which is also known more commonly as "Bullshit." So why don't you rustle up a few links that support, with actual data now, not Right Wing heeby-jeeby feelings about shit, how it would lose money and become another money pit.

Otherwise, I'll call it California being once again ahead of the curve on cool shit.

Simple math tells me it's bullshit. $68 million and 4000 jobs? that works out to $17,000/job, barely minimum wage and you haven't bought land, steel or rolling stock. Conservaderrp is full of shit, as usual.

It's $68 BILLION, or $17 MILLION per job... :eusa_hand:

Yeah, fuck those 4000+ people getting a living wage!!

$17,000 a living wage? In California? :lmao:

Well, wouldn't you Conservatives just tell him to get another job?

Low income assistance is great here in CA.

Why do Teabaggers hate jobs?

I'm not a conservative, so I have no idea what they'd tell him.

I lived in California for 34 years and I know that it is that "great low income assistance" which has contributed to the state's current woes.

Not being a "Teabagger," I couldn't speak to whether or not they hate jobs. I know I don't, but I also know that, despite my being in favor of HSR, now is probably not the time for California to be throwing money they don't have into a project that may fall short and never be completed. In the current economy, how many residents of the state do you honestly believe will be buying bonds for this project? The project depends on selling enough bonds to build a predetermined length of track to qualify for federal funding. It's far too easy for this to fall short, especially when you are banking on funding from a majority of people who will probably never use this train.

Man, Socialists/Progressives really are addicted to spending other peoples' money. How sad.

So you are anticonstitution now? Man I didn't know dwight was a socialist.

You people are the party of backwards thinking.
If California wants people to work, California should hire them, if their budget can handle it. If not, there's a lot more California could do to utilize existing transportation methods and not stick America with state needs.

Stop trying to make other Americans pay for California projects. California can charge out-of-state users for the service to make up the difference.

Great points. Well said. Thanks.

All one has to do is look at AMTRAK and it's losses. THIS will be no different.

I understand that, and I for one am not opposed to a HSR system, I love trains. Hell, when I lived in Southern California I hoped for one from L.A. to L.V.

I just don't feel that now is the time. I say let the economy recover some more and, in the mean time, let's concentrate on our current and constantly deteriorating infrastructure.

It's the "Stimulus" all over again. These jobs will be paid for by Taxpayers. It will be a huge net-loss in the end. Californians are crazy to go for this one, but it is California i guess. The rest of America shouldn't have to suffer because of their craziness though.

Infrastructure spending is never a net negative in the long run. Man, you Teabaggers really do get massive boners from money hub? So fucking shortsighted.

Are you fucken kidding me? And where exactly did you get this little gem of knowledge?
And if you think giving 4000 people jobs to the tune of 100 billion dollars is a good return on investment you're a complete moron.

You do realize what this will do for tourism in California don't you? It'll keep people away. (And California is already hemmoraging people escpaing that place to greener climes like Texas and Florida with lesser taxation.

No. In not kidding. And you are clearly shortsighted. It's not just tr 4000+ directly related NEW jobs that will be created. It's the ancillary jobs too. Every stop will need to be staffed, tourism will take off.

Infrastructure spending is good, and always has been. Conservatives would prefer dirt rpads and buggies, I know.

Liberals love to waste money and if you don't agree with their dumbass plans, then you hate black people, you hate workers, you hate gay people, you hate clean air, you hate clean water, you hate peace, etc.

The lack of success of Amtrak is certainly something to consider.

However, I see the HSR between L.A. and S.F. as a slightly different animal. I think the idea is intended for business folk who frequently fly back and forth between the two cities, often times on a daily basis, and for weekenders looking for a quick, inexpensive way to get from one end of the state to the other.

On the business man end of the plan, you would reduce the number of daily flights to and from the two cities, this of course would mean less pollution and, sadly, probably some airlines reducing their work force in the two cities...

We disagree then. I think times like this are the perfect time to spend money on these types of projects. Put people to work, and if you can demonstrate a good use for it, people will use it.

It's good to think about progress. Right now, it is in everyone's interest to mak progress in paying off their debts, learning to stick to a budget in which funds may be set aside for special projects like this. Then, after a few years, they'll have enough. Other states have been known to raise money to pay for public works. People take pride in helping their communities and states do well. Why not use their own people to do this? It works for others and could prosper the rail business they are proposing.

Unfortunately, I'm beginning to think California thinks of this as a loser project, so just get somebody else doing the accounting in their stead. That's not good for other states.

If the high speed rail going to be faster than flying from LA to SF?

Are the tickets going to cheap enough for the time delay in travel?

Most people that take the AMTRAK from Washington state down to San Diego do it for the scenic sights along the coast. This high speed train isn't going to appeal to those travelers.
