Vegas-to-SoCal high-speed rail project clears major hurdle

Every other industrialized nation manages to do high speed rail successfully.
The US is stuck in the 50s

Russia, China and India manage High Speed Rail and the US can’t?
High speed rail only works in areas with high population density with cities close together. Unlike the California High Speed Rail, this project actually makes some sense. There is a lot of traffic between LA and Vegas and no real terrain obstacles. The only other place in the USA that it works is the BosWash corridor on the east coast.

Not a fan of more rail, but I do think people will gamble all night and sleep on the train back to LA.

No terrain obstacles other than the earthquake faults and the narrow Cajon Pass.

The Cajon Pass, how will a bullet train, be a bullet train through the Cajon Pass? I bet it takes longer in a train than it will take in a car. Also, there are already two train tracks with side tracks through the pass, along with a major freeway. How is it possible for a bullet train track to fit? Certainly not along the freeway, it will have to make a long slow crossback type curve to keep it's speed under control unless it has some sort of new super breaks to keep it's speed down. Than of course if it is a straight run, it will not be able to make speed going up the steep grade.

This is actually pretty funny. People going to Las Vegas to play games of chance, on a bullet train taking a chance crossing all them faults between Vegas and Los Angeles.
The big chance is it ever actually happening. How's that other bullet train in CA doin' that they've been working on since Obama's 1st term?

Wow. This sounds like a bad, VERY bad, idea.

If they cannot even ferret out the corruption and the black hole that sucked all that money and waste away, that sank that project for a high speed rail from LA to the Bay area, folks should be wise, that this is a project, is just to steal the fat of the land, and not to actually accomplish the objectives put forth.

No one should trust governments and corporations, till there is some accountability in this nation, which, clearly there isn't anymore.

Both Joe Biden, Trump, and the Clinton's should all be put in a jail cell together at this point. Then local officials and governors would know that the justice system will hold them accountable for corruption. Maybe?

I don't believe this is anything other than a project to rob the public at this point.

Seriously dude. In this nation, we have a hard enough time, just keeping the trains, on the track, and getting them from point A, to point B, w/o a bunch of folks getting killed, or toxic pollutants destroying the environment.

I will believe it when I see it.

Like trains a lot, why cant we have a few killer cool trains, like Europe & else were. Flying has become a nightmare. Yes on trains.

LA to Vegas and the BosWash corridor are two places in the USA that high speed rail actually make sense. It still would be a boondoggle, but either route would likely at least break even since there is a demand there.

Yeah, the first section--Bakersfield to Merced is supposed to take 3 hours plus. I don't see the draw. It is easy to drive that section in that time or less on CA99.
In the forties Southern Pacifico’s Coast Daylight express made the run from LA to SF faster than the “high speed” rail is now going to do it. It made the run from downtown LA to Downtown SF in twelve hours using steam engines between 1922 and 1957.

As an "express" train, there are few to no intermediate stops.
If you stop every 25 miles, you defeat the purpose of "high speed".

"High speed" rail competes with air travel, not automotive travel.

Now, couple (ha!) high-speed tracks with nuclear-powered locomotives.
I --greatly-- prefer the aesthetics of open-loop, but to maintain the 'high speed' they need to be closed loop.

That is what Elon Musk tried to tell the idiots in Sacramento.

Meh, another giant corporate welfare program, this one for casinos and a crime ridden shithole. After pulling over to do a tire check on the highway between Barstow and Vegas and seeing all the hypodermic needles literally everywhere out in the middle of nowhere, I can pretty much tell what the average passenger is going to be, a bunch of filthy doped up scum, and now imagine the trip back, being trapped on a train with these gimps after they have lost their shirts. lol yeah right; some deranged hood rat gangbanger will waste an entire car the first week, and traffic will disappear overnight.

They would probably bus them up cajon pass--same as they do for the grapevine between LA and Bakersfield.
