Socialism is an economic absurdity. If the least productive person earns as much as the most productive person, then in time everyone will resort to the least productive mode. Well-positioned officials and bureaucrats will rob the country blind, with impunity. This has been demonstrated time and time again, and it continues in Cuba, North Korea, etc. Socialism REQUIRES oppression of the Masses, hence all Socialist governments end up being ruled by despots who rule, essentially, for life.

Pure Capitalism is destructive in its results. All wealth inevitably accrues to a tiny group of capitalists while almost everybody else remains "poor."

The successful nations of the world utilize a mix of the two, with free enterprise getting preferred treatment, but taxes supporting not only a "safety net" but affirmative benefits for all, at a level that the population will tolerate and pay for.

In countries where free speech and expression prevail, "we" fight, not about whether Socialism should prevail, but to what extent it can be tolerated and paid for.

In the U.S. "we" are not willing to pay 50% of our earnings in taxes as they do in the "social democracies" of Europe, hence we cannot afford "free" healthcare, nursing homes, comprehensive child care for working parents. Political charlatans claim that "we" could have all that, but pretend that "someone else" would pay for it - namely Rich People and Corporations.

Only fools believe them.
