Not surprising...

Rich elitist Democrats in office respond...

We're sending our kids to private schools
No vouchers for you poor people
If they don't understand Math, they are more likely to vote Democrat

This is one of the reasons why America keeps falling for fraud after obvious fraud, and why the National Debt and the Deficit don't matter to "most voters."

Maui - it takes math to notice the "explanation" is 1000F short of the damage done
911 - math and science are needed to understand just how obvious a fraud that was, that 600F burning jet fuel did not produce 2200F molten steel etc.
Covid - math is needed before biology, and if they can't do math...
Election Fraud - ditto, must understand math

1. First, math is very difficult for most people.

2. Second, for students to learn math, the school itself has to be an oasis of peace and order.

3. Third, The most sensitive issue and one that no one wants to touch: "Teachers" themselves must be competent in math and know how to teach it.

When I was in Fourth Grade in public school, we were being taught 3 digit multiplication, division, and four of us were moved up mid year to start Algebra. Math is not that difficult. It takes a decent teacher and time in the class.

Clearly, you are correct that classrooms being disrupted are useless, and cell phones are part of that.

What passes for a public education teacher today is sometimes disgustingly pathetic.

But THIS is what Democrats vote for, to ensure their not so wealthy kids do not get an education.

There is but one solution to the public education monopoly, and that is private school vouchers.

Exhibit A: We need more public education, er, or something

For 60 years the Democrats have claimed that public education just needs more money, which it almost always gets. Where does that money go?

1. Democrat campaign coffers
2. $200k per year education bureaucrats, really the Mayor's campaign staff, who do virtually nothing except enforce left wing bias
3. Drag queen shows
4. books filled with porn and homosexuality
5. ghost employees (Demo Party activists who never show up)
6. "pencil drives" that claim there is no money for pencils

Public education is a monopoly for families not wealthy. To break a monopoly, you need another option, and the only option is vouchers.

People who oppose vouchers are the problem. What they support is a dumbed down America and no chance for poor kids to get a decent education.

.

Well said. I started failing in math when algebra came along, about fifth grade, but when I was given an engaging math teacher in 9th grade, I got A's.

.

Children in Baltimore Public Schools may not know math, but they do know how to defend themselves in the corridors and chow line more than children at Groton or Sidwell Friends do. They aren't stupid, its just that they are focused more on skills that are needed in their community.

Its more important little Tyrone or Shawniqua to know how to keister a shiv than how to do trigonometry.

It's the planned creation of a permanent, government dependent underclass. Satan is proud of LBJ and the Satanic democrats

You failed to mention "Da Jooooos!"

Public education in this country is a colossal failure. If every public school was a business almost all of them would have gone under by now. If they were a corporation nobody would invest in them due to the poor ROI. It's time we accept this system isn't working in its current state.

When you were in school, and say, not paying any attention in math class, and even being disruptive to the class. If your teacher called home, what would your parents have said? What do you think most of your classmates' parents would have said?

In 2023, the misbehavior of the students is the teachers' fault. The teacher is not entertaining enough. The teacher is not caring enough. The teacher has not "built relationships".

It does not matter what baggage the children bring into school--the fact that their home life is wreckage, they have not a single book in the home, they are being raised with five siblings, most with different fathers, most absent. Once they cross the schoolroom door, every responsibility is the teacher's.

This is unsustainable, of course. Teachers cannot right all the wrongs of our failing society. And I do mean failing.

Wise words, and well motivated.

However, an oasis of peace and order implies that it is in a desert of violence, squalor, addiction, and lawlessness. In other words, a typical American inner city. People often rightly lament that the government, through public schools, has a captive audience of American youth seven to eight hours per day. But it is equally true for many kids that they are captive for sixteen hours a day to the worst elements that local leaders have allowed to hold sway over their neighborhoods. I don’t know if such an oasis can overcome the drought and famine surrounding it in the competition for the attention of the children.

At the elementary level, and middle level up to seventh grade, a good teacher is a good teacher and can bone up on any subject and then teach it the next day. At the high school level, being good at teaching math requires being good at math and people who are good at math don’t need to work at $60,000 jobs with Masters degrees. They can be accountants, actuaries, lawyers and doctors. Pay teachers in accordance with your expectations for them, don’t expect to pay them like menials and get executive level performance from them

Just quit, whiner.

Been saying this for decades now. Welcome!

When I was in high school, if you were acting out and not properly learning, the priests and brothers had no problem using the beloved educational technique of Swatting to help adjust the students' attitudes.

BTW, it worked very well, our school did a lot better than the government schools as far as educational achievement.

Something about immediate correction that gets kids' minds in focus to actually learn.
