And the MPs only have one magazine, in my day that was seven .45 caliber rounds. Plus MPs are a vanishingly small percentage of the troops and dependents on base. When I was EOD at Presidio San Franscisco, the MPs had to use three people around the clock to guard our bunker on Fort Cronkheit across the bay where we stored the explosives that we confiscated. The Provost Marshal was always complaining that taking one MP per shift off patrol crippled his ability to police the base. An entire division only has one company of MPs consisting of 160 officers and men, I believe he only had a reinforced platoon and Presidio was an "open" base with no fencing or gate guards. People could come and go at will.Do you understand that military bases are essentially gun free zones? Only the military police walk around with weapons?
