Imagine this September 11, which will mark the 15th anniversary of the Taliban attacks on NYC, Americans from all around the nation experience short-circuits or signal interruptions on their mobile phones.

Would the public panic, believing the odd event is some infiltration achievement by terrorists destabilizing mobile phone networks coordinated by American companies such as Verizon and Sprint?

The world is connected through computers now, and *virtually everyone* carries a mobile phone, making business and social networking and domestic (and even international) calling convenient to the fingertips and on the go.

It is hypothetically imaginable, therefore, that a Middle Eastern terrorist cell would seek to destabilize mobile phone networks and thereby cause all kinds of mobile phones to stop working on 9/11/2016, to mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11/2001.

What are our safeguards? Does the NSA check for such destabilization threats? Who would stand to benefit from such a network calamity? I remember on 9/11/2001, there were strange 'street-stories' about mobile phones freezing in NYC. Maybe these 'side-stories' were omens of things to secure for the future.

In such a scenario, America's ability to handle signals-efficiency will shape its effectiveness in controlling 'offbeat panic.'
