85,000 jobs lost last month

Current numbers in context

No question about it. This Bush recession is one of the worst ever.

President Obama sure has his job cut out for him. If he gets us out of this one he would have to be considered one of the greatest presidents of all time

What a partisan hack.
How's that 7% unemployment rate coming along?

Ask the Republicans who drove us into the worst recession in 70 years.

And the reasons we want to bring them back?

Poor GOP policy economically since 2001 set up the Great Recession. End of story.

Actually everything was fine until the Democrats took control of Congress in 06. Or have you forgotten that part already?
In any case, no Republican predicted a 7% rate of unemployment in 2010. Actually no Democrat did either, except you.
So how is that 7% rate coming along for you?

That increase beyond 7% shows just how badly our party performed in the first seven years of the decade. Rab, that is what is being taught in high school and college: the GOP was completely at fault.

That is not completely true, but close enough for our political discomfort. Live with it.

Dumbshit.
When the Democrats took control of Congress in January 2007 the unemployment rate was 4.7%. They have passed stimulus bills and otehr measures so now the rate is at least 10%. I dont care what is being taught in colleges. That is part of the problem.
The Dums own this economy and they own the unemployment rate. And they have shown themselves helpless and hopeless to understand how to change it.

The false rosy picture of the economy started several years ago and still continues.

Obama promised that the unemployment rate would not exceed 8%, we are at 10% now. He forced through a 787 billion dollar stimulus bill that no one had the chance to read before he signed it. Where's all the transperency he promised?? I can't find it anywhere.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

BTW- the real unemployment number is around 17.2% when you consider people who have given up looking for work or those that are underemployed, temp workers or part time workers.

How's that hope and change working out for you????

When you consider that Obama has surrounded himself with intellectuals and academics on the economy and not one of those people have ever worked, owned a business, had to meet a payroll, and never been even close to the private sector. Is it any wonder why this all has failed????? It's called incompetence and it is in abundant supply inside this administration.:cuckoo:

Obama and those around him have never created wealth. They have only spent someone else's. Therefore they have no idea how wealth is created. This is the kernel of the problem.

Maple, very little of what you write above is true. We had the reins and we royally messed things up. Now, if by next fall the recovery has not started, we will pick up some seats (not many). But, you clowns, if the recovery has the job rate down to 8%, we are going to lose seats.

As a solid Republican, I have no trouble with a properly regulated economy. If we had regulated the health insurance industry appropriately, we would not be in this position.

If we had demolished the Taliban and rebuilt Afghanistan into a peaceful and prosperous country, we would not in the position we are there right now.

However, we let nitwits like who think like you make policy, and no you want to blame everybody else other than yourselves.

Doesn't work that way, guys.

Are you actually claiming to be a Republican now? That's a laugh and a half.

A true Republican is concerned about the welfare of country and the public before our contributors.

You are not driving the car anymore, Rab.

Rab, I have been trying for several months, but you have refused to get it. The welfare of the entire country and the people comes before partisan politics. You and those who think like you are only concerned about power, not the good of America. Is that clear enough?

Didn't we get into double digits unemployment under Obama? The last two months of last year, and the beginning of this year?

Because of our party's policies, cmike, which had built up by the end of Bush's term and exploded. You are dishonest if you blame BHO and the Dems for creating them, when we could have changed the direction of the bus. We didn't.

However, you can jump on administration policies that might be prolonging the recession.

Don't include me in your party.

Wait until the economy feels the tsunami that will come from the health care taxes, the cap and trade taxes and regulations, and the global warming edicts.

The economy will be ...

Well this explains it

No, cmike, no tsunami except in your unbalanced mind if you truly believe that. And, oh? If you are Republican, you are in my party.

Exactly why do you feel that you are a republican? What policies do you share with republicans?

No, not at all. Obama pledged exactly the same thing. It is clear that "partisan politics" is what it will take to get this job done. The Dums have the idea that they can spend their way out of a recession. They have the idea that throwing money at "green jobs" will create everlasting wealth. They have the idea that wealth is something that existed before this country was founded and some people just magically inherited it and all we need to do is tap that source.
It is time to kick the Democrats out on their ass and get the adults back in charge. Every program has a powerful constituency that insures its continuance. That needs to go. There needs to be program by program scrutiny focusing on:
1) What the program was meant to accomplish
2) Whether the program has accomplished it
3) Whether continued funding is likely to achieve whatever purpose it had
4) Whether it is being done in teh most cost effective way.
If a program cannot justify itself on thsoe grounds, it needs to go. Perhaps a commission like the base closing commission is needed here.

You guys are truly obvious in your partisanship.

Who was in charge of the congress starting in 06, the dems...when did our recession start...in 07. Who was president, bush.

Yeah so to say it was "all the republicans" or "all the democrats" fault, by anyone, shows that those making such statements are not interested in the truth and only in bashing the party they don't like.

Hacks all over the place.

We lost 80,000 jobs, no way to spin that as good, it was bad. Maybe january will be the first month since 2008 that we actually NET GAINED JOBS and not NET lost them.
