If you are committed to peace, stop the fighting and work out an agreement.

Seems to me that what we're seeing might be what we usually see with authoritarian regimes: The Dear Leader has carefully surrounded himself with people who are afraid to give him any bad news, people who quickly point the finger at each other if he finds out something went south. Those people will also mock and dismiss any negative information.

So he may be operating under badly flawed "information", unaware of what's actually happening.

Unfortunately, America is now operating under the very same structure.
