Why should we respect 'religion'?

Why are we supposed to 'respect' delusions, ignorance, stupidity, and afiry tales just because a large number of people share the delusion? Just because a large number of people share a delusion doesn't mean it's not a delusion. Just because many people are ignorant doesn't mean they aren't ignorant.
