Why low income whites usually vote for Trump

What Truman said about the way Republicans castigate every effort to help people who are not rich as "socialists" is still true.

When Henry Ford I opened his first assembly line he paid twice the going rate for factory work. He explained his behavior by saying, "I want my workers to be able to afford the cars they build."

Henry Ford's rival factory workers did not like this, because it pressured them to raise wages. Consequently, they called Ford a socialist.
/—-/ Having read extensively about Ford, his $5 wage was groundbreaking, but came with restrictions. It wasn’t cut and dry.
The closest approximation to socialism that works is Scandinavian Social Democracy. By criteria I value it works better than American capitalism.
/—-/ Meanwhile the US military provides their nation defense. That’s why they have $$$ for socialism. Plus their taxes are much higher.

JFK's following of The Truman Doctrine is what caused him to change the ROE in Viet Nam and got us into that War.

The Truman Doctrine was a U.S. foreign policy initiative, announced by President Harry S. Truman in 1947, that pledged support to nations resisting communist expansion. It essentially committed the U.S. to assisting countries threatened by communist takeover, whether through internal subversion or external pressure. This marked a significant shift from traditional American isolationism to a policy of active intervention in global affairs.

Key aspects of the Truman Doctrine:
Historical Context:
Consequences:
    • Aid to Greece and Turkey:
The Truman Doctrine led to the provision of $400 million in aid to Greece and Turkey to bolster their defenses against communism.
    • Increased Tensions with the Soviet Union:
The doctrine heightened tensions with the Soviet Union and further solidified the division of Europe into communist and non-communist blocs.
    • Long-term U.S. Involvement:
It established a precedent for future U.S. involvement in global conflicts, particularly in the context of the Cold War.
    • Criticism and Concerns:
Some critics argued that the doctrine would lead to endless U.S. interventionism and could be exploited by other nations.

And they abandoned it years ago.

Catch up.

socialism is gone as an economic construct. The only countries applying it are total and complete dictatorships. And their people are all starving. Quite literally. The People of North Korea are 3 inches shorter than their Brothers and Sisters right across the border.

IMHO, it isn't because socialism is bad in principle, it's because it's practioners are socialists. The dumbest motherfuckers in the Universe. Although dimocrap scum give them a run for the money

If we had One People, one religion, one Race, one belief system..... socialism might work. That was what was behind Hitler's attempted annihilation of The Jews. He knew they'd start trouble because they would never assimilate (READ THE ******* BOOK!). Stalin tried it too by outlawing religion. Everybody with half a brain knows socialism can only work among a homogenous people. Which excludes dimocrap scum, the most ignorant, most corrupt, stupidest pieces of shit in human history.

China is socialist in government but in its economy, it is State Directed Capitalism.

socialism isn;t necessarily a bad idea, it's just that it's time hasn't come. Maybe in 200 - 500 years. But not now. No way.

Even then, it's a stupid system that lends itself to the dumbest people among us trying to tell everybody else what to do.

The Truman Doctrine committed the United States to defending any government, however unpopular and tyrannical, against any resistance movement, however popular, that could be labeled "Communist" even though it took no orders from the Soviet government. The Truman Doctrine was an unfortunate mistake that did lead to the War in Vietnam and interventions in Latin America.

The Truman Doctrine in no way invalidates the truth of President Truman's explanation of how Republicans castigate popular domestic spending programs and policies as "socialism."

Only because they, like much of Europe, was crouching under the American Shield for 80+ years.

Had they been obliged to defend themselves (not just by treaty, but in practice) they would not have done well at-all.

If the United States had a big-brother sugar-daddy and we could more of our GDP on ourselves we'd do better as well.

NO political party works for the average American.
When we understand that, Maybe we will take a closer look at the individual who we vote for.

They still have socialized medicine that gets better health results than the United States, with less money.
Thanks to us American taxpayers supporting them. You ignore that simple fact.

Why?

The Scandinavian countries had the sense to realize that the Soviet Union did not intend to conquer them, and that the Warsaw Pact was defensive.

Given the highly aggressive nature of the Soviet Union (Poland 1939, Finland 1940, Hungary 1956, Czechoslovakia 1968), that would not have been a sensible conclusion.

Without the American Shield the Soviets would have been at The Channel within a few years following 1945.

What they DID do was to realize that the American Shield - already defending much of Europe - would have been de facto held over them as well in the event of a Soviet attack, and therefore decided to pretend to a neutrality that kept military spending down while leaning on the US and their European neighbors for defense if-and-when the time ever came. Benefits without paying for them.

Nationalized Medicine, when forced to adhere to a high standard, may very well attain considerably better results.

The problems arise when trying to enforce that high standard.

The British NHS is a great example.

The law mandates a certain amount of time from the arrival at an emergency room till the patient is actually seen.

Soooooooo, the ambulances would simply circle for hours sometimes so that that rule didn't come in to effect.

I just got back from my Dentist's Office. My Dentist, one of the more beautiful women on the Planet, is an Egyptian Coptic and studied in England for her DDS, her hygienist is from Cuba, was raised there and lived there until she was a grown woman and somehow or another made her way here.

I talked to them both about your ******* socialized medicine bullshit. Because that's what it is -- Bullshit. Total and complete garbage. Crap. A lie.

I live in S Florida, where people who have escaped the lunacy of socialism tend to settle. I'm talking Scandi's, Aussies, Brits, the whole shebang. And none of them, not a one has a good thing to say about socialized medicine. Not a word. Nothing.

Norway is good because their system is well-funded. They are one of the richest countries on Earth. Period. Stinking rich. I sold my Harley to a Norwegian guy. He shipped it back to Norway. I guess it's a thing there. We talked. He married an American girl so he could stay here. I met her..... A living doll. He did okay in that deal.

Sweden is okay if you can get the medical personnel to show up. No shit. The Swedes really don't like to work. I worked with a guy that lived in Sweden for 12 years. He hated it. And he was/is and always will be a very liberal dimocrap. Hated Sweden. Said they were the laziest people he'd ever met. Still votes dimocrap straight ticket.... :dunno:

Norway has a population of 5 million. That's barely a medium sized city in this Country. It has almost inestimable wealth from the North Sea Oil Platforms.

I'm just telling you, you don't know what the **** you're talking about. Talk to some people that have lived under your wonderful socialized medicine bullshit. They hate it.

The best Country with the most respected Health Care system is Switzerland and their system is very simple....... Everybody MUST HAVE Health Insurance from a Private Carrier. No exceptions. Even if you visit, you must prove you have Health Insurance that will pay for your Health Care while in Switzerland. And it works. Beautifully. No cost-shifting, no welfare mamas, no bullshitting around. You WILL have a Private Health Insurance carrier or you WILL go to Prison. If you can't afford one, they'll buy it for you. But it's still from a Private Company

Most other Countries in Europe are trying to switch to the Swiss system but -- You wouldn't know that because, frankly, you don't have ******* clue what you're talking about. All you're doing is copying College Sophomore Term Papers as evidence of your stupid stance. Real World experience be damned.

Commonwealth Foundation: Mirror Mirror 2024

The Commonwealth Foundation released its report Mirror, Mirror 2024: A Portrait of the Failing U.S. Health System on September 19, 2024. Some highlights are quoted below. The report is available in full for free from the Commonwealth Foundation website along with a wealth of other resources.

“The United States ranks last overall (Exhibits 1 and 2). The three top-performing countries in 2024 are Australia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.”

“The United States is not just an outlier on health system performance; it’s an outlier on health care spending as well. In 1980, U.S. expenditures were at the high end of the distribution among the 10 nations studied, but comparable to outlays in Sweden and Germany (8.2% of GDP). Since then, however, the U.S. has far outpaced other nations, spending more than 16 percent of its GDP on health care in 2022 (Exhibit 3). That figure is predicted to exceed 20 percent by 2035.2 In 1980, the other countries included in this analysis spent between 4 percent and 8 percent of GDP, and had increased spending to between 8 percent and 12 percent by 2023.

“The two countries with the highest overall rankings, Australia and the Netherlands, also have the lowest health care spending as a share of GDP (Exhibit 4). The other countries are clustered closely together — except for the U.S., which spends far more of its GDP on health care yet has by far the worst overall performance.”

Yep, been saying this for years. My wife and her family are from a former Communist country. They steer very clear of all Democratic policies because they can see the writing on the wall. Democrats in the US are too spoiled to know just how good they have it and they fall for all this Socialism nonsense.
