Why do some Americans believe they single handedly won WW2?

Because he totally changed the USA to a nation controlled by the Federal Government. He gutted the Supreme Court and replaced the justices with ones he could control. He extended the Great Depression by at least a decade.
Yes he did all of that. Given you also say he controlled the nation using the Federal Government, not clear why you disagreed me on our self stated claims.

It seems to crop up quite a few times where posters claim everyone would be speaking German if the US hadn't won WW2.

There's nothing wrong with an interest in history. But the distorted and chauvinist way the war's history has been presented in the popular imagination is a major problem. It's long since time Americans adopted a more realistic and sensible attitude towards World War II.

The greatest error of historical fact in America's popular interpretation of the war is the idea that the United States won it pretty much single-handedly
.

So despite actual history, do you still believe America single-handedly won WW2? Why? Is it something school taught you or your parents? Genuinely would like to know.
Perhaps not single handedly but without the US Germany and Japan would have won. Here are 2 resons
1. George Patton
2. The atomic bomb.

It was also the US that converted both nations to democracies. America then and today is the only thing holding back socialism and Islamic violence. As long as democrats arent in power

The Russians had Germany on the ropes after Stalingrad
The US had Japan falling back after Midway

Neither was capable of winning after that

Democrats were in power when both nations converted to Democracies

Marshall Plan was a Democratic initiative

An invasion of Japan would killed millions. Only one German division was involved in Russia.

Yes they did, they played a significant role in defeating Germany.
But - if Hitler had a brain, he would never have attacked Russia so early. Russia defeated Germany partly due to the German military had to many fronts, and were not prepared for a Russian winter.
In other words, Hitler defeated Germany. If he would have listened to his generals, and not killed some of the best ones - Germany may have won. If they stayed in military partnership with Russia - they would have easily won.

Hitler should have been happy with Western Europe and a weak alliance with Stalin

If he was, we would still be looking to dislodge Germany

The only reason why Russia was able to win stalingrad is because of all the war materials we gave them. Thousands of aircraft, thousands of tanks, hundreds of thousands of trucks, millions of tons of food and ammunition.

The only thing they provided were bodies, and because they had such poor leadership they still almost managed to lose.

Yup
We provided some of the equipment and they did the fighting and dying

They killed a lot of Germans so we didn’t have to
Oh, we still had to kill a lot of them too. And we are the ones who killed the vast majority of the Japanese in the pacific theater.

But absent the USA the Soviet Union would have completely collapsed within a few months of Barbarossa.

We won the Pacific
Soviets won the European Theater

Germans killed by the Soviet Union
German military deaths (Eastern Front)
  • ~3.0 to 3.5 million German soldiers
    This includes those:
    • Killed in combat
    • Died of wounds
    • Died in Soviet captivity (POWs)

Roughly 75–80% of all German military deaths occurred fighting the USSR.

You don't win by losing more troops than your enemy. The Germans lost closer to 4 million soldiers, but the Soviets lost 25 million soldiers and civilians. They simply had more bodies to lose.

Kinda like what pootin is doing now.
