Why do some Americans believe they single handedly won WW2?

You don't win by losing more troops than your enemy. The Germans lost closer to 4 million soldiers, but the Soviets lost 25 million soldiers and civilians. They simply had more bodies to lose.

Kinda like what pootin is doing now.

Yup
Soviets lost 25 million and the US lost 400,000 in both theaters

FDR was smart that way

Yes they did, they played a significant role in defeating Germany.
But - if Hitler had a brain, he would never have attacked Russia so early. Russia defeated Germany partly due to the German military had to many fronts, and were not prepared for a Russian winter.
In other words, Hitler defeated Germany. If he would have listened to his generals, and not killed some of the best ones - Germany may have won. If they stayed in military partnership with Russia - they would have easily won.
There was no partnership there was a nonaggression pact.

The beginning of the war there most certainly was a partnership. Germany took western Poland, and the SU took the east.

After the West refused to have a anti Nazi pact with the soviets, otherwise millions of German troops would have been on the Russian border before they were, also the Poles stole part of Czechoslovakia months before after they had a green light from Hitler.

I can trash the Americans better than anyone else because I lived in the US for about 20 years and I know how ignorant they are. But at least the Americans know they fought against the NAZIS whereas Canadians believe the NAZIS were their allies fighting against the Sovjets. Now THAT is really dumb! :cuckoo:

Marshall built the war machine
FDR built the political alliance and held off Stalin
FDR did nothing. He was Stalins fan Boi and little else. In fact Marshall was working behind the scenes, oftimes against FDR's wishes to make sure we were prepared when war came.

FDR played Stalin
Stalin fumed and demanded an invasion for two and a half years
FDR let Stalin do the fighting and the dying

FDR did nothing of the sort. He was a weak leader, who's actions increased and lengthened the misery of the Depression. The USA had a well known, and strict isolationist policy that FDR couldn't figure out how to get around.

Thank heaven.

The only reason why Russia was able to win stalingrad is because of all the war materials we gave them. Thousands of aircraft, thousands of tanks, hundreds of thousands of trucks, millions of tons of food and ammunition.

The only thing they provided were bodies, and because they had such poor leadership they still almost managed to lose.
None of that applied at Stalingrad. Lend-lease was just getting started, British aid was important then. What American aid did was allow the USSR to stay in the war and go on the offensive in 1943 and 1944. Without American aid the Soviets lacked the logistics for an offensive war.

Actually it did, the army that was destroyed in stalingrad was indeed pretty much all soviet.

However, the army that surrounded the Germans in stalingrad had significant amounts of American material.

FDR is one of our finest Presidents

He saved America from the Depression
Then he saved the world in WWII

15th post
He prolonged the Great Depression and sacrificed American treasure, blood, and principles for the sake of his buddy Joe.

FDR had an interesting strategy in battling the Great Depression

When told a strategy was better in the long run, his administration replied…….People don’t eat in the long run. They eat every day.
