Why do some Americans believe they single handedly won WW2?

Indeed the Battle of Britain when the RAF destroyed the Luftwaffe over the UK, WW2 was won by the allies all of them, about 80% of axis forces were destroyed on the Eastern front, on D-Day there were more British and Canadian forces than US landing on those beaches but they all played a part, why some Americans have to claim they won all on their own is a mystery.

It seems to crop up quite a few times where posters claim everyone would be speaking German if the US hadn't won WW2.

So despite actual history, do you still believe America single-handedly won WW2? Why? Is it something school taught you or your parents? Genuinely would like to know.

Hollywood.

On a more serious note, every country seems to want to emphasize their contribution to the war.

I was watching the Chinese celebration of the war's end parade with my wife. No mention of America, no mention of the contribution of the Nationalists. No mention of the fact that China was getting its backside kicked for most of the war.

Imo, all the allies collectively won the war.

I think the only governmental built war plant was the Detroit Tank Arsenal. Even the massive Willow Run bomber plant was built by Ford, not the government.

Wrong as usual. Yes the RAF downed about 1,700 German aircraft in the BofB, but when Germany launched Barbarossa in June, seven months later, the Luftwaffe's strength was over five thousand combat aircraft, twice the number it started the BofB with. So the RAF didn't destroy the Luftwaffe over England.
While government owned, Chrysler built and ran the DTA.
They had air superiority at Dunkirk and let it slip away
You don't know what you don't know.

You have no problem calling FDR a socialist because he instituted programs to help starving people during the depression.

Yet, when I point out the socialism of WWII when FDR took over all production you claim that is not socialism
Correctly repeat after me. FDR was socialist. Period.

At that time, FDR confiscated industry to fight his war with the world.
The US government never confiscated any private industries. It did set production goals and priorities for raw materials. And as much as I dislike FDR, WWII WASN'T his war on the world. If Germany, Italy and Japan hadn't attacked other countries without provocation, there never would have been a WWII.

My particular point was specifically about the Battle of Britain, maybe i should have made it clearer.
Some people are also unaware of the SAS and Long range Desert Group in North Africa which destroyed 367 German aircraft on the ground, one famous raid was the attack on the German Sidi Haneish airfield where they destroyed 37 aircraft in one night and supplies like fuel etc, the base was about 235 miles South West of Cairo in Egypt, in that particular operation they used Jeeps armed with twin Vickers Machine guns usually used of British fighter aircraft like the Spitfire.

The only British fighters to use Vickers were a small number of Beaufighters that had dorsal guns. All other British fighters used .303 caliber Brownings, .50 caliber Brownings or Hispano 20mm cannon or a mix of any two of the three.

There's nothing wrong with an interest in history. But the distorted and chauvinist way the war's history has been presented in the popular imagination is a major problem. It's long since time Americans adopted a more realistic and sensible attitude towards World War II.

The greatest error of historical fact in America's popular interpretation of the war is the idea that the United States won it pretty much single-handedly

Had the US not gotten involved, Germany, with their U-boats were defeating the Brits, there would have been no bomb in Japan, so no surrender and Japan could have ruled over all of east Asia including China. The other European countries were taking a beating from Germany. The USSR would have been probably stalled as Germany did not have to divert tactics to compensate for the US invasion.

I’m not sure how caveman sees it. But the allies were losing until the United’s States got involved.

That is why I post. To produce solid productive posts that are to intelligently inform the public so they will better understand this nation.

Are parts of your income confiscated by Government?

Can you produce a scholarly paper to back up your claims? I was alive when FDR was president and recall well the massive changes he made at that time in our history.

Why do you dislike FDR?

Because he totally changed the USA to a nation controlled by the Federal Government. He gutted the Supreme Court and replaced the justices with ones he could control. He extended the Great Depression by at least a decade.
Among other things.
