You're missing the simple point that he was simply playing along with Hitler and feeling him out, seeing how beneficial an alliance with him would or wouldn't be for Russia. Only fighting in North and East Africa, Sicily, Italy, providing aid to guerillas in the Balkans many of whom were communists under Tito, bombing German factories into dust, killing the majority of the Luftwaffe's pilots and destroying its planes, forcing the Germans to dedicate almost all of their artillery production capability into making 88mm and 128mm anti-aircraft guns to defend Germany rather than field guns and anti-tank guns. Not to mention forcing the Germans to keep over a million and a half men garrisoning places like Norway, Denmark the Aegean and The Channel Islands all of whom would otherwise have been used on the Russian Front.

The Germans couldn't invade the Uk because of the water in the Channel. It's tough to mount an amphibious operation when your navy consists of ten or so destroyers, a handful of CLs, three CAs, 2 BCs and one BB.

The RAF didn't destroy the Luftwaffe in the BoB. It fought it to a deadlock which was good enough to prevent an invasion. The RAF didn't have to win; it just had to not lose.
