So despite actual history, do you still believe America single-handedly won WW2?
It seems to crop up quite a few times where posters claim everyone would be speaking German if the US hadn't won WW2.

Time for America to get over its WWII nostalgia
It was the nadir of human history, not a Saturday morning cartoontheweek.com
There's nothing wrong with an interest in history. But the distorted and chauvinist way the war's history has been presented in the popular imagination is a major problem. It's long since time Americans adopted a more realistic and sensible attitude towards World War II.
The greatest error of historical fact in America's popular interpretation of the war is the idea that the United States won it pretty much single-handedly.
So despite actual history, do you still believe America single-handedly won WW2? Why? Is it something school taught you or your parents? Genuinely would like to know.
That's a new one on me. I never heard that America won WWII all by itself. But we sure did by and large pull England's asses out of the ringer, didn't we?
They lost plenty of people but they still would have kicked the Germans' asses. It just would have cost them more than it did, obviously. Hitler ultimately wanted the U.S. and Nordic countries to join him, but he wanted the Russian bear's head mounted on the wall of the Reichstag. The soviets were toast without US aid
Stalin was simply following the principle of keeping his friends close and enemies closer. Shrewd as a cat.He was originally on Hitlers side when the

Bullcrap. Russia did nothing except defend itself and demand more and ever more aid and money from the WAllies. Yes Russia killed a lot of Germans, but the WAllies could have easily done the same with their aerial supremacy, command of the seas and economic supremacy. It would have just taken a year or so longer. Russia would have been out of the war by the end of 1943 at the latest without first British and then American subsidies and technological support. Russia couldn't even feed its own army without WAllied food, let alone the civilians laboring in its factories. Without British Matildas and Valentines, Moscow would have fallen in the winter of 1941 when the Germans were in sight of the Kremlin's onion domes. All railroads led to Moscow, take Moscow and Germany could disrupt all supplies to all other fronts. The Russians would have the choice of pulling back behind the Urals and starving or surrendering.Russian involvement was the most critical element in defeating the Nazis. Western media has tried to downplay that fact since 1945.
Stalin wasn't on our side, he was on RUSSIA's side. He did almost nothing to support the WAllies and what little he did like allowing the seven "shuttle raids" was only under protest and WAllied personnel were treated like a cancer and prevented any contact with the Russian people. Stalin's support for them wasn't even lukewarm, the Russians were openly hostile to the USAAF and its personnel.Did you miss the fact Stalin was on our side in the War?
Stalin had no friends; he had immediate enemies (the Germans) and slightly longer-term enemies (the rest of the western world)Stalin was simply following the principle of keeping his friends close and enemies closer. Shrewd as a cat.
The Germans were on the offensive on the Eastern Front until Kursk. Stalingrad ended in February 1943, Kursk ended in August 1943 six months later. The Soviets were not able to go on a full offensive until early 1944 when the flood of AMERICAN trucks had arrived to carry the logistics necessary.Germany was on the offensive until the Soviets destroyed them at Stalingrad
Japan was on the offensive until the US destroyed them at Midway.
Neither recovered
You're missing the simple point that he was simply playing along with Hitler and feeling him out, seeing how beneficial an alliance with him would or wouldn't be for Russia. Hitler was probably doing essentially the same thing in that relationship, except Hitler was a bullheaded moron when it came to offensive strategy and he megalomaniacally turned on someone who would have made a much better ally then an enemy. He sure fucked that up and it was ultimately the most fatal mistake he ever made for his country.Stalin had no friends; he had immediate enemies (the Germans) and slightly longer-term enemies (the rest of the western world)
The enemy of his enemy was his friend.Stalin wasn't on our side, he was on RUSSIA's side. He did almost nothing to support the WAllies and what little he did like allowing the "shuttle raids" was only under protest and WAllied personnel were treated like a cancer and prevented any contact with the Russian people.
The allies did nothing until operation overlord to help Russia on the battlefield only when the Soviets were storming towards Berlin, we were allies you Nazi.Stalin wasn't on our side, he was on RUSSIA's side. He did almost nothing to support the WAllies and what little he did like allowing the "shuttle raids" was only under protest and WAllied personnel were treated like a cancer and prevented any contact with the Russian people.
Indeed the Soviets destroyed over 80% of axis forces. They lost plenty of people but they still would have kicked the Germans' asses. It just would have cost them more than it did, obviously. Hitler ultimately wanted the U.S. and Nordic countries to join him, but he wanted the Russian bear's head mounted on the wall of the Reichstag.
My father was a kid in those times and grew up within an hour of Nuernberg. Didn't co.e to the U.S. until 1960. I've heard all about where German forces were going straight from the horse's mouth, not Western media which has spent 80 years inflating the achievements and covering the mistakes of the government it works for. Most of German muscle was being sent to the Eastern front in massive droves and still they got their asses beat over there. The allies did very little to help things on that side of the war.
Germany suffered massive losses at Stalingrad. The Germans were on the offensive on the Eastern Front until Kursk. Stalingrad ended in February 1943, Kursk ended in August 1943 six months later. The Soviets were not able to go on a full offensive until early 1944 when the flood of AMERICAN trucks had arrived to carry the logistics necessary.
Partitioning Poland is certainly keeping your friend close.Stalin was simply following the principle of keeping his friends close and enemies closer. Shrewd as a cat.
The Germans went on the offensive again in 1943, so you are wrong.Germany was on the offensive until the Soviets destroyed them at Stalingrad
Japan was on the offensive until the US destroyed them at Midway.
