The progressive tax system has been with us a long time, it's almost like you are just now noticing it for the first time and think that it is the only method of trying to make sure something trickles down.

Because he doesn't have a plan to grow the economy and hasn't had one for over three YEARS now...he's relied on non-stop quantitative easing by the Fed to keep the stock market from cratering. That has essentially given those with credit (ie the very rich) the ability to borrow money more or less interest free and invest it in yet another stock market bubble. The rich have made billions in this stock market and the Middle Class has sat on the side lines licking their wounds from the LAST stock market crash.

But to counter the nutjob....my experience between liberals and conservatives was formed from Carter, Reagan and Clinton (my grade school/high school/college years).

I noticed growing up in a military family that most people in the military were conservative people. I noticed in college the people that trashed the military as leeches were liberals, they mostly hate the military for taking tax money from their welfare projects and "so-called harming peace on the planet" - their words.

Liberals are the ones that like to slash the DoD budget to spend more on bullshit welfare programs like obamacare, see the last 5 years.

Conservatives have always believed in a strong national defense and foreign policy is patriotic because it maintains the peace and the lifesytle you have here. If you are not safe and secure here, then everything else is a waste.

The war for being more patriotic has been going on since the founding of this nation. While yes you do tend to find more nationalists on the right, that doesn't mean the left doesn't try to out do them as well.

Its more physiological than anything else. The connection has to do with the symbol of what the flag means to people. We invest in our symbols 100% and tend to be very loyal to those symbols. Coke over pepsi, Gm over Ford, tide over Cheer, etc. So you defend those things you love because its been with you all your life. You are bias to support those things.
