Why do Republicans consider themselves "patriotic"?

This thread starts out taking sides about who's patriotic. Back and forth sparring from dems, repubs. Maybe we're all patriotic and just think that our brand of patriotism is better. In the meantime, the owners of this country, or like George Carlin said, the real owners, laugh all the way to the bank.

You are correct, I see the country as a collection of awesome people with limitless potential that is being wasted on corporate drudgery and distractions. I think republicans really only see the country in light of it's overt military victories and cold war scare propaganda rather than The People (meaning every last person who lives here).

Republican patriotism is so conditional that I see it as a sham, you cannot be patriotic hating the government and most of the people who live here. Republicans again and again try to blast the left for what they consider "unpatriotic". And to do it, they need to make up the most ridiculous nonsense, like Democrats are working towards a "new world order" or Democrats want to "redistribute" the wealth.

They talk about liberty but engage in voter suppression.

They insist they love veterans yet cut food stamps for disabled veterans.

They complain the country is divided, yet they are 90% white.

They ignore the massive redistribution of wealth under Bush.

Worst of all, so many discuss "secession".

It seems their policies are designed to hurt as many Americans as possible. So many seem to have a real hatred for anyone not like them.

Washington was referring to the newly formed government and wanting to prevent another tyranny that was for them, King George.
