My White, suburban schools were open on November 11, and had no formal recognition of Veterans' Day, other than what individual teachers might have done for their own classes.

There was no mail delivery.

Fewer than one in ten American Yoots even considers military service as an option in their lives, despite a job market for HS grads that is, shall we say, sketchy.

This ain't the country that I grew up in. I'm glad that I'm old and prosperous enough not to give a shit.

IDK if it was state wide, but at least some of the public schools were open in N. ID. I've no problem with it. The school kids in these districts are some of the most patriotic and respectful children I have ever seen. The schools seem to center their studies around the contributions of veterans. Again, I think the only people that should get a paid holiday are veterans and ALL of them should get the holiday.

It's true. Only about 9 percent join the military after high school. This is the time period when military service is most often considered as an option.

1,800,000 male HS grads annually.
175,000 (average) join the military.
175,000 divided by 1,800,000 = 9 percent.
