25 percent of those who served in vietnam were draftees the rest were volunteers which means my statement still stands MOST of them were not forced. Incidentally this is the opposite of the WWII " greatest " generation where 30 percent volunteered and 70 percent were drafted.

You mean they ran to canada and BTW several thousand canadians went the other way to volunteer for the US military and fight.

When I worked in a rural school district, in a high school of over 1000 students, I found myself as the only veteran teacher in the school besides the physical plant manager. The school did make an announcement honoring us on that day. Most of the school districts where I worked gave us the day off.

The irony of that was we were both Navy and my ship refueled from his in the Med while he was the master helmsman on his oiler and I was the conning officer on my cruiser.
