The MAY festival aka MAY tree festival - is due to the memorial day of Saint Walpurgis (Bavaria-Germany) laid to rest at Eichstätt on May 1st in 870 A.D, and declared to be a Saint. Thus centuries later combining earlier Germanic Spring festivals lasting from March to May.

The word Mai (May)-baum (tree) doesn't derive from the term "month of May - but from Maien meaning "branches getting green"

The first organized worker demonstration, that took place, was in Australia on April 21st to May1st 1856 - whilst the Marxist only came up with a labor day demonstration to mark a labor day on Mai 1st in 1889. Commemorating the worker demonstration in Chicago on May1st to 4th. 1886 that cost the lives of around 20 workers due to police opening fire on May3rd and the Haymarket bomb on May 4th. Therefore the first "Internationale (Marxist) demonstration day" was implemented on May 1st 1890.

In 1955 Pope Pius XII. invented a "Saint Joseph the worker" in order to bring in a Catholic counter and appeal to the Communist/Socialist dominated May1st. And additionally declared May 1st to be a Catholic public holiday.

Nope today is the 3rd - and in Bavaria May 1st was a Catholic holiday. Since I am not a member in any trade unions, or political psychotic parties like you, I don't attend those or any other political festivities.

However I keep protesting openly about ridiculous diesel prices - thanks to an imbecile called TACO.
