This is the thing with Catholics in particular. They are given the horrid beliefs of the Catholic Church which included slavery, God thinks homosexuals are an abomination, no marriage outside the church, women are inferior, and that a nonbelief gets you into hell a Catholic quotes Paul who made an uncorroborated claim of a vision of Jesus as their "out".
Where is your evidence of this vision or that Paul was even an apostle or that he wasn't creating a new religion that made him a hero?
1. Tell me how many times you heard this in homilies or in the classroom.
2. Women are not inferior. Where did you get that idea.
3. The Catholic Church does not validate marriages outside the Church
as Catholic marriages. So what?
4. God condemns the act, not the people.
5. No, non-belief does not get you into hell. Rejecting God (meaning you believe in him and reject him anyway) is what gets someone to hell. They choose hell. Try a more in depth reading of Catholic teaching on this.
6. You have made it clear to us that
any opinion other than your own be it Paul's, Lincoln's, Washington, etc. you dismiss as authoritarian and therefore does not count. Paul's experiences don't count, nor do the experiences of any Saint, nor experiences of people living today. We get it...and give it a pass.
Does atheism work for you? My rule of thumb is that any belief that relies on tearing down and bashing another's beliefs is a weak belief not worth considering. Any belief should be strong enough to stand on its own. Going by this standard, consider the possibility that you are not that strong of an atheist since you rely so heavily on tearing down religion/faith. Atheism should stand on its own. It has for the atheists in my family. There was never this
need to denigrate religion/faith. Also, the people of faith in my family never felt a need to convert or denigrate atheism/non-belief. Our testimony is our lives, and we trust in the Holy Spirit to take it from there.
