NYC mayoral candidate Brad Lander arrested by ICE​

New York City Comptroller and Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested Tuesday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while he was escorting a defendant out of immigration court.

“While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE,” Lander’s wife, Meg Barnette, wrote on X.

“This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely,” Barnette wrote.

Video of the incident posted online showed Lander outside a courtroom at the city’s main immigration court when he is approached by officers, including some wearing masks.

Lander repeatedly asked the officers to show him a judicial warrant before he is handcuffed, per the video posted by Barnette.

These guys have found a formula that's working for them. Just as it did when Rep. LaMonica McIver was charged with assault after she was prevented from exercising her legal right to inspect an ICE facility.

They cause a ruckus in a public setting and then find a pretense to arrest an elected official who just happens to be a Dem. The message being sent is crystal clear. There's a word for it.......it's called intimidation. If you happen to be the comptroller of NYC and a mayoral candidate there, or a US Rep., or a US senator, prepare to be arrested, push against a wall, forced down to the floor, and handcuffed by trump's goon squad.

As Padilla eloquently put it, if this is what's happening to US senators in public view imagine what they're doing to lettuce pickers.

Congressional hearings are called for but the POT is running the show and they're all too afraid to show some courage and speak out or take action.

Many moons ago, I visited the Alamo - in Texas. The tour guide went over the history of the region and why the Alamo was such an important battle. I'll summarize:

After Mexico won its independence from Spain, they found themselves the proud owners of the territory of Texas. But it was sparsely populated and in need of people to establish a civilized presence. So they created programs to entice US residents, hungry for opportunity, to settle the region. They offered free land, and even cash incentives, for foreigners willing to tame the land and, eventually, pay taxes.

After twenty years or so, conservatives in Mexico City won leadership of the government. And they weren't as enthused about foreigners populating "their" land. The newbs weren't speaking Spanish and the Mexican government worried that they would water down the culture. So they cancelled the induced immigration policies, and began passing laws to close the border and crack down on US immigration.

But when you have opportunity on one side of a border, and hungry people on the other, the border tends to get ignored. Americans continued to flood the region and the Mexican government decided to take a hard line. Thus the Alamo. That turned out to be a pretty bad idea.

At the time Texas was sparsely populated. The land that Mexicans are claiming is heavily populated with huge cities.
