What You Saw Tonight Was the Trump Effect

Back to the thread topic:

Democrats dominate as economic woes take a toll on Trump's GOP. Takeaways from Election Day 2025

“Democrats dominated the first major Election Day since President Donald Trump returned to the White House.

And while a debate about the future of the Democratic Party may have only just begun, there are signs that the economy — specifically, Trump’s inability to deliver the economic turnaround he promised last fall — may be a real problem for Trump’s GOP heading into next year’s higher-stakes midterm elections.

Democrats on Tuesday won governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey, the only states electing new chief executives this year. They also swept a trio of state Supreme Court contests in swing-state Pennsylvania and ballots measures from Colorado to Maine.

Trump was largely absent from the campaign trail, but GOP candidates closely aligned themselves with the president, betting that his big win last year could provide a path to victory this time. They were wrong.”

Uh oh, another "you need...", no thank you.

I work remotely for most of the work I do, so the price of gas is of less concern than all of the other cost of living metrics that have going up since 2019.
Diesel is $4.72 there in Spokane, and here in Ohio yesterday I paid $2.58.

Everything on the shelves in your grocery stores got there via a diesel powered truck.

That affects everybody, even you.

Republicans felt the wrath tonight of voters rejecting Trump's agenda. The biggest issue for voters was the economy, with half listing it as their number one focus. Almost a year into his second term Trump has failed to deliver on the economy as food and energy prices continue to rise and 60% of voters disapprove of his handling. Republicans have lost their gains with Latino voters. In New Jersey, 64% went for Sherrill citing the economy and his handling of immigration has their largest concerns. Trump almost won New Jersey in last year's election largely due to the swing of Latino voters to the GOP. Gen Z voters also did a 180 and overwhelmingly backed the Democratic candidates after backing Trump last year. Overall, only 37% of voters approve of the job he is doing.

These numbers are abysmal and it's the only way a man like Jay Jones can get elected to the top law enforcement office in the state, despite his sociopathic comments about his opponents' children being publicly leaked. It's not just "blue state" statewide offices either. Down ballot, Republicans have lost 11 seats in the Virginia House Delegates, taking the Democrats' 51-49 majority to 62-38. In Georgia, Democrats defeated Republican incumbents in statewide races for Public Service Commissioner. In Pennsylvania, they are sweeping judicial races across the board.

MAGA appears to be repeating the same errors of the 2018 midterm election cycle, denying that Trump is an albatross around their necks by not delivering what the people want. They went on to lose 41 House seats that year.
You have been blaming Trunp repeatedly for multiple losses in mid terms and other elections, even in deep bliue states lol. It isnsinply.not true although I knew he lost his way once he abandoned his own campaign promises or went off the beaten path, all own goals. However, What GOP candidate works for you? George Bush? Mitt Romney? Nikki Haley? Liz Cheney? I imagine you will suggest De Santis, right? You are an American, surely you see and hear what is important to Americans. AOC is being interviewed today and elevated to stardom afer this Mandari win, meanwhile she tweeted out that there should be a database made of Trump supporters after the 2020 loss. That is 10s of millions of Americans. Huh? It isn't all about Trump, though I agree he has made some unforced errors which didn't make sense to me.

I agree Trump needs to give the economy/jobs/housing market laser like focus at this point.

BUT

You can't take a national temperature with NJ, Virginia and for Pete's sake....NYC

Actually, Trump sucks so bad, he makes even commies look attractive.

No, many Democrats are so brainwashed that they believe Communism is better than Trump or any Republican. They don’t have a clue what they are voting for.

Oh I don't deny it. I'm so excited to see the complete downfall of NYC
NYC will be fine.
New York City receives the most tourists in the United States. In 2023, it was the most visited city with nearly 8.9 million visitors
In 2023, New York City tourism had an economic impact of $74 billion, with direct spending exceeding $48 billion.

You should get used to saying that.

I plan to say it a lot, as we see NYC decend into even more of a shithole.

I mean, you agree that the results of the election are on the people that voted for it, right?

Oh honey, once the crime spikes no one will go there.

Two deep blue cities and Maoist city? FFS

You should get used to saying that.

A sector of Americans--and "Americans"--who are so stupid they don't understand that COMMUNISM ONLY WORKS under the jackboot of an all-encompassing state. These same idiots with "No Kings" placards want a king to feed and house them and take care of their kids.

Welp, they FA and they're about to FO

Obama had the opportunity to radically change things. He blew it.

Trump had (has) the opportunity to radically change things and he is blowing it.

We foolishly turn to the same failed alternatives.

Obama wins, the Dems think they have all the answers, piss people off, Trump happens. Trump wins, the GQP think they have all the answers, piss people off, last night happens.

Wash, rinse, repeat. The parties refuse to learn. The general public doesn't want ugly, narcissistic, binary tribalism. Neither did the Founders, for that matter.

NY and NJ vote blue all the time every time. I’m not sure what you don’t understand about that. Last night would have happened no matter who was President.

NYC just chose an alternative, though the Democratic Party is not too far off from Mamdani. Let’s see how it works out for them.

You’re seriously comparing Obama’s behavior to Trump’s?
