What makes someone a “Conservative”?

Basically an indifference to the suffering of others.
A feeling of….I got mine, the hell with everyone else.

Republicans generally donate more to charity than Democrats, both in household contributions and at the community level.

Key Findings on Political Affiliation and Giving

Research consistently shows that conservative-leaning households contribute more to charity than liberal-leaning households. According to Arthur Brooks, households led by conservatives donate approximately 30% more than those led by liberals, and some studies suggest conservatives may give nearly twice the average annual contributions compared to liberals (GreenLivingTribe) greenlivingtribe.comgreenlivingtribe.com. This pattern is also reflected geographically: counties dominated by Republicans report higher charitable contributions than Democratic-leaning counties, although in blue counties, giving is often supplemented by higher taxes (Giving Compass) givingcompass.orggivingcompass.org.

Types of Charitable Giving

Republicans tend to favor private institutions, such as religious organizations and schools, whereas Democrats may focus more on public welfare programs. This distinction sometimes reflects “consumption philanthropy”, where donors benefit indirectly from their contributions, such as through improved local schools or religious programs (Giving Compass) givingcompass.orggivingcompass.org. Despite Democrats’ vocal concern for social issues, their personal financial contributions to charity are generally lower than those of Republicans (GreenLivingTribe) greenlivingtribe.comgreenlivingtribe.com.

Broader Context

While Republicans give more in private donations, overall U.S. charitable giving has remained around 2% of GDP over decades, with religious causes consistently being the most popular target (Philanthropy Roundtable) philanthropyroundtable.orgphilanthropyroundtable.org. Internationally, Americans are among the most charitable populations, donating more per capita than Europeans, even though European countries provide more extensive social safety nets (GreenLivingTribe) greenlivingtribe.comgreenlivingtribe.com.

Summary

  • Republicans donate more to charity than Democrats, both in household-level giving and county-level contributions.
  • Conservative donors often direct funds to private institutions, while liberal donors may rely more on public programs or government interventions.
  • Political affiliation is a strong predictor of charitable behavior, though overall generosity in the U.S. remains high compared to other countries.
This data highlights that private charitable giving is influenced not only by income and wealth but also by political ideology, with Republicans consistently contributing more financially to nonprofit causes.

Helping people who need help is a function of government.

Conservatives say……Let em die
State Government, not Federal Government.

No Conservative says, "Let them Die".

You are a liar.

What Conservatives think is that government helping people begins when they are 5 or 6, and you help them by teaching them skills to survive in general, in society (without the aid of government), and independently.

That is why Conservatives blast government schools. They don't teach them any of that shit. They just teach them to belittle people and demand to be kept, because they have been taught to depend on the government. That is where the Left's power comes from.

If we don't feed you, you will die.

THAT IS POWER.

I do not agree but tell us this.

Why do Democrats inflict such terror?
They are after the president. They are after all of his accomplishments. They hate the man.

Do you have yours, so you hate Trump helping others get theirs?

Republicans contribute more to their churches while Democrats contribute to public welfare programs

These are churches the Republicans actually benefit from and pays for a pastor, chapel, heat, air conditioning, building maintenance…not necessarily helping the local community

In my opinion since this is an opinion forum and facts rarely matter:

1) Limited Govt. States and local rule over Federal rule when possible, which should lead to fiscal responsibility.

2) Personal responsibility over Govt is here to help

3) Support of Free Markets. Reasonable taxes. Reasonable regulation

4) Traditional values aka no furries, trans crap,
DEI

5) Strong and advanced military

6) Support strong border security and contolled
Legal immigration

7) Support strong law enforcement none of this cashless bail and such. Back the Blue

8) Support 2A

9) End birthright citizenship for illegals

10) Death penalty for convicted violent criminals

11) Pride in being an American

12) Reduce perpetual social programs and create a system of reward for work not for gaming the system

13) There are only two genders

Doesn’t sound so bad

🤷‍♂

Conserve the good and get rid of the bad.
I gave you a winner.

My take on it has always been, "If you cannot defend yourself agasinst the whole world, the whole world will come and take what you have and they won't care about this kind of debate.

You'll do as they say or you'll be shot in the head.

What makes someone a “Conservative”?

I read this as "what is the thing that makes me a Conservative."

What is the thing that most makes me see myself as a Conservative?

After a lot of thought, I think it's mostly my self-reliance and my philosophical (realist) beliefs.

Lead the way and pay more been if your middle class. You will not. You just talk. Adn then force all to pay when elected to power.

True. Teaching them how to fish feeds them a lifetime as opposed to the left just tossing them rotted fish carcasses and calling it compassion.

Good point….teach someone how to fish
But what do you do when the lake dries up?

Many communities in this country both urban and rural have had their sources of income disappear. Manufacturing plants close, Coal mines dry up, farms fail

Knowing how to fish will not help you

Seems as though that may be accurate.

However, Eisenhower knew what was coming.

"A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction. . . . American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. . . . This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. . . .Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. . . . In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

/-----/ Uhhh, that's your interpretation. Read it again, slowly: Republicans tend to favor private institutions, such as religious organizations and schools,

Outreach: Funding faith-motivated social services, such as food pantries, homeless shelters, or international mission work.

Why Conservatives Prioritize These Areas

Research, such as the findings discussed in political discourse and studies by Arthur Brooks, suggests that conservative-leaning donors often contribute a higher percentage of their income to these private sectors compared to liberal-leaning donors.
FeaturePrivate Institutional Giving (Conservative-Leaning)Public/Welfare Giving (Liberal-Leaning)
Primary VehicleChurches, Private Foundations, Local CharitiesGovernment Programs, Advocacy Groups, Secular NGOs
Key ValueSubsidiarity: Problems should be handled by the smallest, most local authority possible.Social Justice: Systematic issues require broad, state-level interventions and policy changes.
Desired OutcomeIndividual transformation and local community stability.Large-scale equity and the strengthening of the social safety net.
