What makes one Conservative?

Something a bit more interesting than what's being posted today, although I'm using that term "conservative" loosely since nearly all here aren't conservative, they're Reactionary.

Scientists Discover the Fascinating Psychological Reason Why Conservatives Are…Conservative
Right-wing ideology is tailored to a particular psychological profile.

A large body of political scientists and political psychologists now concur that liberals and conservatives disagree about politics in part because they are different people at the level of personality, psychology, and even traits like physiology and genetics.

That's a big deal. It challenges everything that we thought we knew about politics—upending the idea that we get our beliefs solely from our upbringing, from our friends and families, from our personal economic interests, and calling into question the notion that in politics, we can really change (most of us, anyway).

The occasion of this revelation is a paper by John Hibbing of the University of Nebraska and his colleagues, arguing that political conservatives have a "negativity bias," meaning that they are physiologically more attuned to negative (threatening, disgusting) stimuli in their environments.
(The paper can be read for free here.) In the process, Hibbing et al. marshal a large body of evidence, including their own experiments using eye trackers and other devices to measure the involuntary responses of political partisans to different types of images. One finding? That conservatives respond much more rapidly to threatening and aversive stimuli (for instance, images of "a very large spider on the face of a frightened person, a dazed individual with a bloody face, and an open wound with maggots in it," as one of their papers put it).

ideas on universal grammar are a helpful analogy here. He kind of stuck his finger in the eye of strict behaviorists 50 yrs. ago. And in nature aren't Bonobos undeniable evidence for inherent social traits?

Oh BS you moron. Get a browser that shows hyperlinks, and then grow a pair.

Sigh.

Like I said before, it links to the journal the study is published in, not the study. Thus, by definition, it is not a direct link to the study.

Follow the link that says HERE you little moron.

Do you understand English? Do you know what an adjective does?

1) Fear of the other.

2) Lack of real critical thinking skills.

3) Impotent rage -- wanting to blame all of life's failures on Government or the poor.

4) Religion - misused to manipulate them, distract them, and get their money.

Avatar just mindlessly mouths conservative talking points. It's sort of like hearing a fly buzz around your head.

The definition for political conservative is that of resisting change, to conserve. Even Thomas Jefferson warned that we would need to modify and alter the laws in this country, using the analogy of a boy outgrowing his clothes.

So these incredibly dense Republicans think we can still run the country like it has only 200,000 people spread across a 99.99% rural landscape of 1000 miles. That's a conservative for you.

The founders gave us a way to change the law and it wasn't by Executive Order.
They gave us that way too, and don't forget the courts, which change it rather dramatically at times.
Which branch of government writes our laws, again?

Writes our laws? See above where you said "change" our laws. And actually, who does write the laws? They don't all come from Congress now do they? And how many kinds of laws do we have? Hint, there's more than one...

Only one of which should be legal.

Prof. Philip Hamburger (Columbia), guest-blogging, on his ?Is Administrative Law Unlawful?? - The Washington Post

Of course, you prefer a king to the freedom of letting the people make decisions, so you support the government making laws by fiat.

I suppose one word that could best describe what a conservative is, is greed.

i had a Religious Conservative couple on my route who ran a home for battered and homeless woman .....and they used a lot of their own money....so much for that theory....

What makes one Conservative?

Believing that the Washington Post, as does the nitwit Sarah Palin, is 'negligent' in its responsibility to 'investigate' the 'crimes' of President Obama, as it so zealously did Nixon.

The ignorance and stupidity of this is of course clearly evident.

Richard Nixon in fact violated the law, he committed actual crimes, consequently there was actual evidence for the Post to investigate.

None of which is the case with President Obama.

She has the right idea just the wrong crime. Obama and company committed war crimes with the drone program. He murdered Americans without due process and "accidentally" killed a very innocent 16 year old boy. Don't worry I am just pointing it out nothing will happen to the king.

What makes Mother Jones/Chris Mooney the source of political information? Nothing? Then the whole post falls apart.

You know what's funny, Clayton? That's exactly what Richard Nixon was claiming before a Special Prosecutor was named and the Watergate Investigation revealed the truth. Too bad we don't have a President or Attorney General with enough integrity to appoint a Special Prosecutor...so we could learn the truth about the IRS scandal!

There is little question that the Washington Post hasn't been pursuing THAT scandal with much "vigor". It has many of the same components of the Watergate scandal...yet it's not newsworthy?

Again, CONSERVATIVE simply means less of.

I want the least amount of Government possible with common sense. I want the least amount of spending with common sense. I want to Conserve our Christian values as a nation with common sense and without the current forced religion and bigotry.

I want to end Government Tax Funding to video games and robotic squirrels and use those funds for the Blind or truly needy instead of pulling $ from the truly needy because there was a video about someone manipulating the system. I want to stop the manipulation of the system, not end it. "I can't fix it" or "I can't win" is the cowards way out.

What makes one conservative?

Logic, a knowledge of history, a knowledge of economics, maturity, intelligence, life experience, skepticism and a thirst for freedom.

How I wish we still had some of those? Those I can deal with.

Looking at those prerequisites, it seems to me all the real conservatives are Democrats.
The Republicans lost those virtues when they embraced intolerance, Southern ideology,
pseudo-science, and a thirst for restricting the freedom of others.

What makes one Conservative?

The same thing that causes so many white guys in Red States to commit suicide.

Fear. They are simply tired of being scared of everything.
