In the recesses of your mind
What is your personal belief of THE WORST thing to happen in history?
Factually REAL, not conspiracies, or made up stuff. REAL historical facts.

Dinosaur extinction?
Titanic?
Nazi's?
Pompeii?
Hindenburg?
The Plague/Black Death?
World War?
Earthquakes?
Volcanoes?
The Inquisition?
Columbia shuttle?
COVID?

Or?????

So..recorded history. Takes out the dino extinction event, in that case.

Hmm..For Europeans, almost certainly The Plague. Although Bubonic plague decimated the entire world, AFAIK, it came very close to wiping the White guys out. Killed a third total--1 in 3.

Good alternate history about that-- Years of Rice and Salt.

Yeah...I'd say diseases. We'll never really know the number of native Americans, North and South, that died from Euro-plagues.

If I were of a philosophical disposition, I'd say Man...Man is the worst thing that happened in Human History.

As a cause of death for humans, socialism.

Probably the worst thing to happen in human history was WWII. Notice how I don't immediately blame the nazis, but WWII in general.

The Nazis killed about 6,000,000 in concentration camps, and killed millions more in the battles on the Western, and especially the Eastern fronts. The Japanese committed unspeakable atrocities to the Chinese, and were brutal in their invasion tactics. The Soviets possibly dealt the worst punishments of all, in the war of attrition against Germany. Killing men, women and children, raping women as young as small girls, to old grandmothers and burning everything. The Allies killed hundreds of thousands of civilians by bombing cities. All told, the war cost 85,000,000 lives, and cemented Communism in Europe for nearly 50 years, killing millions more, and imprisoning hundreds of thousands. Japan weakened Chinese resistance to the Chinese communists, and that killed well over 50,000,000.

WWII kicked off a killing spree that would span the 20th century nearly in its entirety, and that's why I believe it is the worst event in human history. Not some volcano, not some vax fairy tale, not the plague, not the Titanic, etc.
