Where did you dream up this fantasy? The Marine Corps was formed a month after the Navy was created in 1775. The British have had Marines since time began.The only reason the USMC exists is to be the Navy's Infantry. Hence, their name.
If an Army General and a Navy Admiral are taking part in an Amphibious landing, and the Navy has no Infantry, the Army is in charge. The Army is the Senior Service.
But Army Generals trying to tell the Navy what to do doesn't work very well most of the time. There have been multiple examples in multiple Wars. Catastrophic examples
So we gave the Navy their own Infantry to keep the Army from sinking Navy Ships. bummer. We call them 'Marines' and their job description comes down to, "Hey Diddle-Diddle, Charge Up The Middle". And they're some of the best, most fearless light infantry in the world.
But that's what they are -- "Light" Infantry. They get a Beachhead, and the Army comes in and takes over. That's the way it's supposed to work. And that's what the Pentagon wants to get back to.
It can get complicated but I agree with it. No knock on the Marines. They seize and hold the Beach until relieved by the Army.
If we could just keep them from eating the crayons........

Luckily you didn't shoot them. But, and you can correct me if I'm wrong it was a dangerous job doing what you did. And I know for a fact that there were a couple of close calls during the cold war where a single bad decision could blow it all up. Yet the US was willing to take that risk, because they felt the alternative was letting the Russians win.
That's not really true as they are buying weapons from the NORKs and other Russian allies.
First of all, it was Russia, who saved Baltic tribes at all. Just google what had happened with Baltic tribes, like Prusses, under the German occupation (hint: they were genocided). Second, it was Soviet Union (mostly Russians and Jews) who created Latvian (and not only Latvian) culture - they made something more or less usable from retarded villagers' folklore. Third - back in the late Soviet Union children had a choice - to study in Russian or in Latvian schools. Now, one of the options is taken from local people. They, definitely see it as decreasing of their freedoms, oppression and discrimination.

America doesn't purposefully kill civilians .. and name one country we invaded with the intention of seizing it .. we could have done that at the end of WW2 and we didn't .. however Russia seized and took over vast territories at the end of WW2 .. y'all ain't gonna be allowed to rebuild the Soviet Union !

The "squat-to-pee Democrat" brought together EU and US foreign aid to Ukraine so they could resist. Much to Putin's dismay, who thought there would be a few sanctions, and he could do what he wanted. Aid Trump is now stopping, while publicly shaming Zelenski and making it clear that the US doesn't agree that Russia is the aggressor.
