Afghanistan War, international conflict in Afghanistan beginning in 2001 that was triggered by the September 11 attacks and consisted of three phases. The first phase—toppling the Taliban (the ultraconservative political and religious faction that ruled Afghanistan and provided sanctuary for al-Qaeda, perpetrators of the September 11 attacks)—was brief, lasting just two months. The second phase, from 2002 until 2008, was marked by a U.S. strategy of defeating the Taliban militarily and rebuilding core institutions of the Afghan state. The third phase, a turn to classic counterinsurgency doctrine, began in 2008 and accelerated with U.S. Pres. Barack Obama’s 2009 decision to temporarily increase the U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan. The larger force was used to implement a strategy of protecting the population from Taliban attacks and supporting efforts to reintegrate insurgents into Afghan society. The strategy came coupled with a timetable for the withdrawal of the foreign forces from Afghanistan; beginning in 2011, security responsibilities would be gradually handed over to the Afghan military and police. The new approach largely failed to achieve its aims. Insurgent attacks and civilian casualties remained stubbornly high, while many of the Afghan military and police units taking over security duties appeared to be ill-prepared to hold off the Taliban. By the time the U.S. and NATO combat mission formally ended in December 2014, the 13-year Afghanistan War had become the longest war ever fought by the United States. American military casualties included some 2,400 service members killed and some 20,700 others wounded.

Worked out great didn't it? Just like the Vietnam War and IraqI and Iraq II.
The only way to win is to not play.

Afghanistan wasn't necessary once Bin Laden escaped.

Obama made it necessary after Bush had drawn back during his surge into Iraq.

We should have just left Afghanistan when the getting was good before any rebuilding took place.

Bush initiated war with Iraq (2003-2011) based upon falsely claiming that Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction,

Bush's invasion of Afghanistan resulted in the longest war in U.S. history, 2001-2021.

It is yet to be determined how long it will take to extract the U.S. from Trump's Iranian hostilities. Some Republicans are voicing concerns that the conflict could spiral into a ground war with Iran, including Armed Services Republican Nancy Mace of South Carolina.

It won't take any time at all to extract us from Iran because we aren't in Iran.

But you think war on Syria, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, and Tunisia are good because you didn't know they were even going on.

Out of sight, out of mind.
Dude. I didnt mention Trump's invading Venezuela, bombing of Latin American ships or the bombing of Niger either as almost all of those were much smaller operations. I listed the really bad ideas out specifically and have far less of an issue with US meddling places than I do full blown war actions. Your whataboutism is a joke... right?

Trump didn't invade Venezuela....he sent SEALs to arrest him. There was an indictment for his arrest hanging over his head.

Nah.....trusting your enemies is a suicidal tendency that the left exhibits out of policy.

This is how traitors are made.

Having more in common with your enemies than with Americans tends to lead to cutting your own throats.

They also tend to undermine people who are just looking out for everyone's welfare.

Democrats are nothing but whiners and complainers who spy on the military and sabotage the White House.
We have been dealing with Iran for 50 years
No big deal…..Until Trump

"There are facts surrounding Operation Epic Fury that most people either don't know or are choosing to ignore because they don't fit a preferred narrative. Bill O'Reilly laid them out this week, and they matter regardless of where you stand on the war.Fact one: the United States destroyed approximately 75% of Iran's nuclear capacity in the Israeli strikes last June. Not all of it. Seventy-five percent. Other labs were working on the same program that were not destroyed.Fact two: by February 2026, U.S. intelligence determined Iran was weeks away from enriching enough uranium to produce a low-level nuclear device — one that could be handed off to a proxy. Trump received that intel.Fact three: Israel and other intelligence sources then informed Trump that the entire mullah leadership would be gathered in one location at one time. A window that would not last.Fact four: this came on the heels of six weeks of negotiations in which Iran delivered a clear message to American representatives in Geneva. They were not going to stop. They gave Witkoff and the American team the middle finger in the final meeting.Fact five — and this is the one that reframes everything. O'Reilly spoke to Trump privately, one on one, by phone, one week before the strikes were launched. His description: the entire conversation was about making a deal. Trump did not want to use military force. They discussed multiple pathways — including O'Reilly's own idea of using Beijing as leverage over Iran. Trump was still looking for an exit from confrontation. Then Iran walked out of Geneva. Then the intelligence came in about the leadership gathering. Then the decision was made. This is not the portrait of a president who campaigned on peace and secretly wanted war. This is a president who pursued every diplomatic option available, received intelligence that the threat was imminent and the window was closing, and made the call. You can disagree with that call. But you cannot honestly claim it was made recklessly or eagerly — not with this timeline in hand.𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀. 𝗜𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗺."

The Great Communicator Ronald Reagan spoke words that someone wrote for him. Do you have a point?

Yeah, a big one. Reagan was giving a speech conveying his policies and actions, part of his job, with or without someone else's help in putting it together and drafting it onto a teleprompter for him to refer to as he spoke, these four hapless idiots are just holding up a sign someone else made that they were just asked to hold up for a photo op.
